Ashton defending his son in DUI case…

Big mistake Jeffy expecially with that big election coming up. Does this mean that you condone drinking and driving or that sobriety tests and breathalyzers should be abolished? Don’t you think that your son should have hired his own attorney? Money can’t be that tight.

Ashton to defend son

I am sure we can do a double up in here (sorry Jeff) and include something else of interest…

Police pay a visit to father who shot daughter’s laptop in viral video over Facebook complaint – to THANK him

Well, I recon even Jeff Ashton suffers from the ” not my child” syndrome. 🙂
I personally think he should have found another attorney to defend his son. My guess is that ol’ Jeffy has driven home after a few brewskies on numerous occasions. Hopefully, after losing his license, and the astronomical rise in his insurance for the next few years, the younger Ashton will think twice about drinking and driving. He may very well have been “fine to drive” on that one occasion, but it is obvious he has a disregard for speed limits as well. Recon he’ll slow his behind down in the future as well. Had he observed that one other little rule of the road, he might not have been pulled over to begin with. Hopefully, Alexander Ashton will obey the terms of his probation. One thing for certain, Mr. Ashton hasn’t scored any points with me. As a father, he should have blasted his son for his irresponsible behavior, and then assisted him with finding legal representation. I fear the lesson that should have been learned by the younger Ashton will be overshadowed in his mind by the unreliability of breathalyzers, and the consolatory pat on the back by dear old dad.

Vicky~ ~ I think Jeff made a huge mistake by representing his son. With the election coming up, Jeff just flushed hundreds of yea votes for himself down the toilet. He is also being frowned upon for drafting his Imperfect Justice while the trial was going on. I think Lamar and the other man running in opposition of Ashton are grinning from ear to ear now.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Alex couldn’t afford an attorney so he asked his father for help. That, of course, directly appealed to Jeff’s concern as a parent. The cost to fight a DUI charge today is astronomical – up to $20,000. Plus, if convicted, auto insurance skyrockets, running anywhere from $5,000 – $10,000 per year. Then there’s the matter of the type of coverage you need to drive again, and it jumps to an astronomical figure; basically 10 times the amount. Taking everything into consideration, I can understand why anyone would fight the charge because of the costs and inconveniences involved.

He is now required to finish a DUI program, a psychosocial evaluation and treatment referral services, in order to satisfy judicial and driver licensing requirements..He must also take a victim awareness program. None of these programs is cheap, by any means, and a DUI conviction remains on your driving record for 75 years in Florida.

In my opinion, Jeff made a mistake in representing his son. He should have called on one of his attorney friends instead. I understand a parent’s desire to help their children in times of need, but this one sent mixed signals to the voters in Orange County because of the obvious conflict of interest. Not only that, but he lost! Either way, it was a no win scenario that will impact his election bid.

Dave~~thanks for the great info. Remind me never to drink and drive in Florida. I would end up in the poor house. Too bad Jeff did not hire an attorney for his boy and do it discreetly. His son broke the law and should be treated like anyone else who does so… It is a shame that this happened just before Jeff’s election.

Just days after Casey Anthony prosecutor Jeff Ashton defended his son in court on drunken driving charges, he’s also representing his daughter in a different trial.

“I don’t think that’s any of your business, ” said Rebecca Ashton. “I’m not really interested in talking to you.”
