I only drink decaf this time of day. Actually, I don’t drink any coffee after my 2 cups of regular in the morning, but I’d be willing to enjoy one here. What kind of trouble are you having at my place, cali patti? No one has reported anything unusual, and I’m, quite naturally, concerned about issues of this nature. You shouldn’t be having any problems accessing my site.

Also, if you plan on taking a solo trip, BE CAREFUL! There’s a lot of sick weirdos out there, and women are most vulnerable to attack. I’m not trying to frighten you, I’m just a person who cares a lot about your safety.

  2. snoopysleuth says:

Hi Dave, Cali Patti must be off buying her camper. I noticed CNN Prime is still milking the Casey Anthony case for all its worth.

  3. Dave Knechel says:

I think the expiration date came and went on that milk, Snoopy.

  4. snoopysleuth says:

Dave~~the news medias have not acknowledged that the verdict came back as ‘not guilty.’ BTW, I have a gut feeling that Casey is still in the state of Florida. Why you ask? Baez is not going to let her too far out of his sight. He would never take the chance of someone else getting their hands on his gold mine. JVM had that Taylor on her show tonight. He reminds me of Lenny Padilla and likes to play the big shot. I could only stomach the show for about ten minutes.

  5. nan11 says:

Cali: Your trip sounds like fun–take good care of yourself though.

Snoop: I think your gut feeling is correct.

  6. cali patti says:

thanks dave & Snoopy, I will reply later… in a frump buy all is good.

  7. cali patti says:

Florida is a big state with hidey holes everywhere. Snoop you are probably right. I also never thought she went far. LA (I like San Diego) seems like a good idea but to far away from Baez.

Dave, long ago I could click on a contributors name at your blog and go to their pages so I tried that at your new site. I recieved several different responses, no new pages. One response was a blank page with no access written in small letters upper left hand corner.
Since then even when signing into to your page in different ways I will write ?
then click on post comment and go directly to no access page.

Let me turn this completely off and retry tomorrow before you try to fix.

  8. cali patti says:

Does TransCanada Keystone oil company have a good reputation up there? There are folks in Oklahoma/Texas who have been trying to fight eminent domain and are losing to the Canadian oil company.

  9. cali patti says:

Dave, I still can’t get in ver there. LOL
I did email you with page that comes up when I click on post
    but here it is again.

I have Dave’s SSpace listed in my Blogroll- the sidebar to the right of this page. If you click on it, it takes you right to Dave’s blog.

  11. cali patti says:

It has to be me … I can get on your site, go from article to article and read all comments,
it is when is go to post a comment that No access page pops up.
Your busy I will figure out what’s going on.
If you don’t hear from me you know why. LOL
Maybe Karma is telling me something. LOL

  12. cali patti says:

I was refering to Daves site.
Honestly Snoop, one day all was good and the next day this No access page popped up.
    I honestly don’t have a clue.

Only thing I did different was check out (clicked on) a few names listed a commentors on his site.
The No access page popped up for a few of them and now it is the page I go to when I try to post there.

For those who know of Amy Winehouse (singer, songwriter and addict) she was found dead in her London apartment today. She joins the “27 club”, i.e., Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobane died at age 27.

I will pop over to the “farmyard site” and gladly share my love/hate, skip the love part, relationships of the feathered beasts in my life. I just can’t today. Story is not that interesting but gawd chickens, turkeys, even birds can have such nasty attitudes. I really dislike bird/chicken poop. Nasty!

  15. Hello to Jonathon, Vicky, Cali Patti and anyone I’ve missed,
I boarded up the blog to do some belated spring cleaning. The place is so empty now, I have to get busy filling it up! I’m back open for business and working on some new plays. I hope to be out and about more…you may wish I had stayed put! LOL :)

  16. Vicky says:

Howdy Sis! Glad to know you’re open for business. I can’t wait to view your latest production. :)

  17. Vicky says:

My heart is breaking for yet another child leaving this world as a victim of abuse. The world is filled with monsters.

  18. snoopysleuth says:

Vicky~~I am listening to it now on Jane Velez Mitchell…. I am sick to my stomach. When you think it cannot get any worse. It is one thing to kill another but to take pleasure in torturing them to death. I hope the bastards rot in hell.

  19. Vicky says:

When I hear about cases like this, the irrational side of me feels that the punishment should literally fit the crime. A day in the trunk and if they survive, give them a popcicle and send them to prison.
Upon their death, I picture them in the fifth or seventh circle of Dante’s Inferno.

  20. cali patti says:

Anyone watch Bravo’s housewives? I stopped this last year but just saw a reunion show, OMG what wasted lives, but interesting.

  21. cali patti says:

Watching part 2 of housewives reunion…omg too much money not enough class.

  22. nan11 says:

Snoop: Are you still following the baby Kate case? There was a preliminary hearing today. They said that Kate’s clothing was found in his pant’s pockets and her car seat and diaper bag was found in the trunk of his vehicle.

All along I’ve been banging my head on my desk wondering why they didn’t search the area they found the clothing better. I guess I have my answer in that regard.

Anyway they decided there was enough evidence of kidnapping to send the case to circuit court and they would not lower his bond.

    Here is a link.

Sean Michael Phillips bound over to circuit court on kidnapping charge in connection with missing Baby Kate

  23. Nan11, how come they didn’t come out at the first and say that they found the dress and panties of baby Kate in his pant’s pocket. In the picture, how come the person holding the clothing isn’t wearing rubber gloves. There may be evidence on those items of clothing. I also wonder why he kept the clothing, diaper bag and car seat. If he killed Baby Kate, you would think he would have destroyed the other things. This is one strange case but then again, they all seem to be lately.

  24. nan11 says:

Snoop: That’s right, too. I had forgotten about them holding the clothing. Oh, well, who cares about a little thing like evidence? They’ll wait till they find the baby dead before they start concerning themselves over that.

Then when it goes to trial no-one will have to worry about the stupid jury understanding evidence.

  25. Dang thunder booming off in the distance. If it gets close, I am shutting down and hitting the sack. We had around eleven hours of it yesterday and last night, non stop. Halifax got 66mms of rain.

  26. nan11 says:

Snoop: Wow, I thought I was hard done by because we had what I call a long one yesterday. It started around 3 or 3:39 p.m. and went on for a while. Every time I thought it was over and put my ‘puter back on, I would hear another big clap. By 5:00 p.m. it was all over, though.

It’s been a bad summer for that stuff. We’ve had more of it this year than we have had for a while.

    Take care.

  27. Sherry says:

    J~! There’s an old saying:

If thunder you can hear, then you should fear.

It doesn’t have to be on top of you for lightening to strike because lightening can travel quite a ways. I’m sure you know that- I just care that you be safe.

  28. nan11 says:

Snoop: This is another article on baby, Kate. Apparently, she called him the night before and asked him if he wanted to take Kate that night because tomorrow it would be too late. Take her where and for what purpose?

Do you think she was offering to let him spend one last night with his baby daughter before they turned her over to strangers, or did she mean something more sinister?

I found something about this article really chilling. Besides the above, it describes the police finding him ‘pacing’ agitatedly in front of the garage with Kate’s clothes in his pocket. One Officer had phoned him prior to their arrival and he told them he had last seen ‘it’ with her mother

The only reason I can think of for him to strip the clothes off his tiny, helpless daughter (other than adoption), is because she was dead and he thought they might be able to identify her through her clothing.

It’s still so confusing, though. A rumor is going about that he was looking for an excuse to get out of going to Afganistan, so maybe they just dreamed up this elaborate plot? For the sake of beautiful baby Kate, I hope so; however, the feeling in the pit of my stomach is telling me that it is highly unlikely. jmo

FYI: There is also a video at this link but due to some pretty major ‘puter problems, I’m unable to watch it. (What else is new regarding me and ‘puter problems, eh? LOL)

Preliminary hearing testimony provides new details, no answers about missing Baby Kate, the 5-month-old Ludington baby

    Quote:
Perhaps the biggest bombshell Wednesday came when Courtland admitted she and Phillips had discussed many times, and at length, about giving the infant up for adoption.

However, despite adoption paperwork partially filled out by the young couple — discovered in Courtland’s apartment after the alleged abduction — she adamantly denied having gone through with it.

    Snipped

However, Smedley pointed out a voicemail from Courtland to Phillips on the evening of June 28, hours before the infant went missing, in which Courtland asks Phillips if he would want to “take Kate” that night because “after tomorrow it will be too late.”
    End of Quote

  29. Nan11, I have no hopes that baby Kate is still alive. Since Courtland did not want to put the little one up for adoption, it seems that Phillips took things into his own hands. Like you said, he probably planned on disposing of the clothes and the diaper bag and car seat. At one time, Phillips didn’t think the child was his. I don’t know if he will ever crack and tell what he did to baby Kate. If he thought the child was not his, he may have been insanely jealous. This is another strange case and I don’t know how they can convict him on such little evidence. His silence reeks of guilt.

  30. nan11 says:

Snoop: Ugh–it’s so sad. I wanted that baby to be alive, somewhere; but I think you’re right. I read that he always knew the baby was his but they had told his parents that she belonged to another man.

Apparently, his parents wanted nothing to do with Ariel and even the first baby. I think I read where she hadn’t even met them until Sean was in jail.

It sounds so bizzare that a grown man of 22 years, about to go off to war, would be afraid to tell his parents that he had two beautiful daughters. I also heard that when he first went to jail, he wouldn’t even speak to them; but I see at the hearing they were sitting behind him–I don’t know if he actually speaks with them or accepts their visits and phone calls, though.

I remember reading that Ariel said that he never got angry, but something tells me this guy was seething inside and took his rage out on a 4 month old baby. He’s a big, strong guy and probably well trained–and able to act quickly.

  31. Laurali says:

Snoopy G-pa passed at 6:25 this evening. You were right.

  32. Laura, tender hugs, honey. He is at peace now. Take lots of time to grieve and do not ever be ashamed to let the tears flow. You were a wonderful g/daughter to have your g/pa be at your home in his final hours. You and the girls try and get some rest now. xoxo

  33. Sherry says:

    Aw, Laurali, my condolences

  34. nan11 says:

Laurali: My deepest condolences to you and your family. My heart and prayers go out to you.

  35. cali patti says:

So sorry for your pain and your loss Laureli.

  36. Frankie says:

Laurali, I’m sorry for your loss. It was a wonderful blessing for you and your grandfather to have been together during his last days. You were so good to him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hugs to you.

  37. Laurali says:

Thanks everyone for the condolences. It has been a very rough few days. When I agreed to let my G-pa come home with Hospice they prepared us for everything so I thought. They never told us about the final exit from home. When he went out the door I realized he would never come back. That hurt a lot. He is finally at peace after a long battle of poor health.

  38. nan11 says:

Laurali: (((H)))’s to you. That hurts alot, I know. Be easy on yourself.

  39. Laura~~those final goodbyes can be pretty rough. No one can rob you of the fond memories you are left with. Remember the good times and cherish them. Hugs and more hugs.

  40. Frankie says:

Laurali~Sending Hugs to you. I have been thinking of you. Hang in there. I know you are a very strong lady. Take care of yourself.

  41. nan11 says:

Snoop: Thanks for fixing my error. I’m really having major computer problems and I can’t watch too many of the videos. Some of them work for me, but others won’t. (Well, it’s more like sometimes they play and sometimes they don’t.)

I have a phone call ‘appointment’ for Friday afternoon–it can’t get her soon enough to suit me.

When I try to navigate from one web page to the next I keep getting all these pop up boxes that tell me I need to download this and I need to download that–and I have all that stuff already downloaded. It’s so frustrating!

Anyway, not much longer to wait.

Oh, another thing I wanted to mention–Breeann’s case really reminds me of that case that happened in my neck of the woods way back in the mid-70′s. I was wondering if you remember it?

I know it was rumored that her parents did get some answer’s but officially that little girl has never been found. (Or at least, as far as I know.)

  42. Nan11, you may have picked up a trogan in your travels. I had one heck of a time with ads popping up and starting to scan my puter etc. Twice, I had to call Dave and he talked me thru fixing it. I couldn’t get on the internet. There is a program called Malware bytes that will scan your puter in about 12 to 20 minutes and it will delete the culprits. I had a program called Spyware but my trial period ended and I did not want to purchase it. It did the same as Malware bytes. The last time I ran my scan ( I have the free Avira Anti Virus) it picked up 6 intruders and I quarantined them. Do you have your pop up blocker turned off?

  43. nan11 says:

Snoop: I do have my pop-up blocker on. It’s set to ‘medium’ level. Also, I have an ‘ad blocker’ that I purchase through my internet provider and that is on as well.

I know that’s the first thing they will do is run some kind of trojan remover program; but I’ll really be surprised if I have something like that. I run a anti-virus/spyware remover scan every day. (I have it set to deep scan.) I’m faithful to my ‘everyday’ schedule and the software that I use is purchased through my internet provder and it is good. So, I’ll be surprised if it’s that–but maybe.

Today when it scanned, it came back and told me that it deleted 25 spyware cookies. Now, where could I have picked all those up? I have been sticking very close to home lately.

Honestly, it’s acting almost like it did when I had that mirror-imaging problem. That ended with me having to wipe the whole computer down and reload everything. That was not fun.

Tonight is garbage night and I wish I could afford to throw the dang thing out and buy a new one. I’m just sick of this. Everytime I turn around it’s up to something else. I am not at all amused.

  44. Nan11, everytime you go to a website, it sets a cookie. I clear the history and cookies in my cache daily. This is my third puter since 1998. I had Windows 98 and a virus ate it. LOL After that I got Windows XP and it was just getting worn out so now I have Windows 7. My favorite was Windows 98. When they made the Windows XP, they used capacitors made in Japan and they would get overheated and melt. I had to ship my puter to Montreal and have proper capacitors installed. Thank God it was all under warranty. I had a loaner puter while mine was being repaired and it was loaded with viruses. Every night around 8pm, the viruses would take over the puter and fill up my email accounts with spam. One night I had 172 emails and most from adult websites. I put up with that for just over a week. LOL

  45. Nan11, I do not seem to recall a child going missing in the ’70′s in your neck of the woods. Criminals are getting smarter and that is why missing children are never found. I see another woman is missing in Aruba. She is in her thirties and went to Aruba with a man who is being questioned.

  46. nan11 says:

Snoop–Oh, I didn’t hear about the missing woman in Aruba. A person never knows who they can trust now-a-days.

That case I was referring to occurred around the Dominion Street area of town. The little girl was about 4 or 5 years old and she was out riding her bike one night after supper. Her parents had gone to a bingo game and her older sister was supposed to be watching her. (She was about 16/17 years old, IIRC.) She was talking on the phone to her boyfriend and when she finally went out to check–there was no sign of the child. This would have happened around ’74 or ’75; and to this day, I believe her case has never officially been solved. I’m certain no arrests were ever made.

It was rumored that her bike was found all smashed and that a (well-to-do) drunk driver had run over her. Supposedly, he picked her up and hid her–then, years later, on his death bed, he confessed. I say that’s all hogwash myself, but who would really know?

The child’s parents, and indeed her whole family, siblings, aunts, uncles–the whole lot of them–clammed up. They wanted no follow-up articles to appear in the paper–they didn’t even want her name spoken. Some said they received a large sum of money from the drunk driver. Could be, I guess.

  47. nan11 says:

Snoop: I just scrolled back up and read your comment of 7:52 p.m.

I hate to tell you this because I know you are going to say it’s the root of all my problems (and you might be right); but I’m still using Windows Vista. Now, I can upgrade for a sensible price to Windows 7–but, honestly, when my ‘puter was new I loved it. It ran good, no kidding.

I don’t know if upgrading would do me any good; it would still be there in the background wouldn’t it?

I do clean out my cache regularly–plus I have some software, like ‘System Mechanic’ (which I purchased recently because they told me that would solve all my problems, ha!), that will supposedly dump all that stuff by itself.

From what I can understand about those cookies it’s finding, is that they are more serious cookies–like bad spyware ones. But I think the computer just generates them itself–I don’t know where it picks them up.

This all started while I was watching the trial, and at first I wasn’t too concerned because I thought some of the stations were doing private surveys to monitor who was watching. It’s just been getting steadily worse, though.

I’ll go say to WebSleuth’s (where I have been going to since 2008), and it downloads a few lines, then it tells me I need to download Adobe Flashplayer. Well, I have that. So I tell it that. Then it downloads a few more lines and then it tells me I need another version of something else. I tell it no. It downloads a few more lines. I’m telling you, it’s enough to drive a person bonkers. That goes on for every case I try to check out. And it continues on all the media sites like WFTV–all of them.

It takes a good five minutes to get a page all loaded so I can began to read. I’m just praying they can fix it. I’m out of patience with it–I really can’t put up with much more.

  48. Laurali says:

Nan~ I can loan you a teenager. :) I never have computer problems for long. My girls take care of them. They always have the updated version of this or that and when I do have issues they load it onto my laptop. I will ship my kid where ever you need. lol

  49. nan11 says:

Laurali: You are blessed, indeed. I struggle away, here. I’m convinced it just plots on it’s own how to irritate me the most. It’s outdoing itself this time!

  50. SageMom says:

Good morning to my mainstream friends!! I wanted to share with you all this morning that my son is all smiles and now in pre-op for posterior spinal implamentation/spinall fusion procedure. I thought it would be good to stop by and chit chat as the surgery will last 6 hours or so. I am nervous but feeling positive and ready to see him with a beautiful straight back! The hospital is great and things are going quite smoothly. I will check in from time to time and let everyone know how things are going and remind myself what great company all of you can be. I have been reading here every night but thought it appropriate to comment today because I need the great company. I also have wanted to tell Nan11 that I think about her frustration on how the TURNIP TRIALS turned out. Please, Nan, you are waaaaaayyyyy too valuable to waste too much time being sad and mad and frustrated over this. You are an important person and people like me need people like you! Smile for us! Life is good! ♥♥

  51. Frankie says:

    Hi Sage Mom,
So the day is finally here. I have been thinking about you and your son. Waiting is hard but knowing how wonderful the results will be makes it worth it. I don’t know how surgeons do it but they are certainly a talented, gifted and amazing group of doctors. They have made so many advances that I am in total amazement at what they can do. I’m so glad you came on to let us know what’s going on. It must be exciting for both of you. I have to go out today but I will check in when I come back. I am the worst for remembering names. I think you said your son is Darrin or Derrick or it starts with a D? I don’t feel right saying your son all the time when he does have a name. I’m glad you are positive and your son is lucky to have such a loving Mom. Take care. TTYL

  52. nan11 says:

SageMom: It’s good to ‘see’ you. I was thinking about you last night. Lots of prayers and happy, positive thoughts go out to you and your son.

I do have moments of happiness–it’s just that I choke when I think about that family. There are so many serious ‘wrongs’ to move past–first we had the slaying and the dumping; next we had all the lies and the inappropriate freedom; and now we have the media awarding their actions with cold hard cash.

It’s more than I can seem to accept, and somedays I know I do rant. All is well, though, and I will move past this.

Also, my ‘puter problems aren’t improving my mood any!

So, special prayers of quick recovery and perfect healing go your way today. Take care.

  53. Sage Mom~~positive thoughts and prayers going out over the miles to you and your son. God guides the hands of the surgeons. xoxo

  54. SageMom says:

Thanks to all of you and Dylan is that beautiful boy’s name. I want to tell all of you thankyou just for letting me be here and Jonathon.what a great place this is. I, for once in my life, am not shaking and hyperventilating through this. I feel strong and very positive with people like you by my side. Thankyou!

  55. Hello SageMom – I want you to know that your son is in my thoughts and prayers. His 6 hours of surgery is going to seem like an eternity to you, but it will pass and he will be fine.

What a wonderful person you are. Even in your time of great concern, you care about others, as witnessed in your comment addressing nan11. Believe me, there are plenty of people thinking positive thoughts about you and your son, and you are very deserving of it. Thanks for just being you.

  56. Sherry says:

I’ve said prayers for you and your son and his doctors! I will be looking forward to your updates, Sagemom! {{{hugs}}}

Hey Snoop, hope you don’t mind but I did write Dave on Aug 8th or 9th, again on the 10th so thought I would try here.
When commenting at your site after clicking on post comment IT APPEARS to have gone thru. When I scroll down to posting comment section & in RED the words
Post a New Comment ( unable to Post) ~ written exactly like that.
    I tried the 9th, 10th & 11th
used different screennames and at different times

also had YOUR page go to a generic type page when clicking on from my history page.
    something is going on there.
Besides I think you would have many more comments than you do have over the last 2 days.

  58. Cali Patti~~that is exactly what happened to me and I got the same words in red. It only happened when I tried to paste a comment in there. I was able to type a couple of lines that would show up. Dave will probably see your message here.

  59. cali patti says:

thank you snoopy, I wasn’t pasting and it has happened for 3 days.
Thank you for letting me leave a note here.
Hope all is well with you. Is your summer weather still there?

  60. margaret says:

Sagemom, good to hear from you. You sound uplifted and that is good, but I know inside you feel like jello . Gods hands are guiding the surgeons and God is in charge. …… I remember when my son was born, he had double hernias , he was 9 lbs 11 ozs. At 18 mos , he had surgery. We have a small local hospital and at that time some wonderful doctors. They let me carry him in my arms to the OR door. The surgeon teased me later that they had to just take him away from me. It was gut wrenching to let him go. Keep your mind on the end result. My prayers for your family and your son . Please keep us posted.

  61. cali patti says:

hey SageMom hope all is well with your son.
Snoop/Dave, Aug. 13 3:50 pm still can’t get on your site

The one thing I am sure of is that my Dad is in good company with your loved ones and how lucky your family is to have you! Thankyou to each and every one of you! Dave and Jonathon? A great success for my Superman and another great success for Caylee Marie!!!

  63. Sage Mom~~ am I ever glad to hear from you. I was getting knots in my stomach. I am so happy for you and Dylan. I prayed hard for you these past few days and I know the rest of the gang did too. Bless you and your boy. Tender hugs.

  64. nan11 says:

SageMom: I was holding my breath hoping all was well. (Even though I kept thinking very positve thoughts that it was.)

Sleep tight tonight knowing your beautiful son with his lovely straight back will recover quickly now.

Thanks so much for letting us know. (((H)))’s to you and Dylan.

  65. Frankie says:

SageMom~ Thank you! I am so glad your son is going to be just fine. Hopefully today you will be worry free. :)

I am starting to feel a little better. Give me another day or two and I will hang out more.

  70. SageMom says:

    Hey Friends,
Checking in to let you all know It wasn’t such a good day today. I’m requesting some positive thoughts. My husband was surely a super hero today too. He really held the family together when I felt weak. I am sure in the long run, he will be as great as ever. We just need a little more time. Thankyou friends and I am sure I will have a great report for all of you soon!

  71. Sage Mom~~Post-Op can be a very trying time. There will be many hurdles to get over as Dylan’s body starts to heal. It is normal for a patient to have bouts of depression after such a major surgery and pain is another factor. One good thing the doctors can manage the pain with medication. I will continue to pray that Dylan will have a complete recovery without too much discomfort. Sage Mom…big tender hug for you!

  72. nan11 says:

SageMom: Positive thoughts are on there way. Sometimes there can be a little spat of time after a major surgery where things appear to be going backwards–I think the initial ‘pre-op’ adrenaline passes from the body, and then the healing finally begins.

You and Dylan were blessed to have your husband’s strengh today. I hope you take a little time to ‘nourish’ yourself and get some rest.

We do heal ‘in time’ but it’s much easier to say that than it is to watch it’s slow, slow progress.

It’s so great to hear from you. I always keep an eye out for your comments. If your having a bad day, I wouldn’t mind a bit if came in to vent a little.

    Sometimes that can help, too.

  73. Sherry says:

    SageMom, you have my prayers and thoughts. {{{hugs}}}

  74. SageMom says:

Thankyou very much for letting me vent Nan and Jonathon, you are right. Today he just seemed to be slipping backward. Apparently, his epidural dosage was almost doubled. He has not eaten since wednesday, and his fentanyl was every few minutes. He was so sick. I could see in his eyes that he was sick and so confused. He tried to tell them he was seeing double and his fingertips were tingling. It scared me so. He was getting too much of everything!. Things are better now and he is resting finally. Again, I am sure things will get better. I really am trying to be better at this part. It’s hard. I will just rest and keep on going though, just like Dylan. Watch and see.things are going to be looking up in the morning. Thankyou friends and I will report in again soon. I am going to have a much better report tomorrow. Until then, goodnight friends! Life is good.

  75. Frankie says:

Sage Mom, I’m sorry to hear that Dylan had a bad day but I am glad that he is now resting. Surgery sure can knock the heck out of you. It’s nice to have the strength and support of your husband. Positive thoughts and healing energy are being sent your way. I look forward to your updates. Hugs to you and Dylan.

  76. nan11 says:

SageMom: I just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking [and sending] all positive thoughts and prayers to you and Dylan.

I have a candle lighted, and am going to try to keep it burning all day.

May you feel the warmth and caring of its flame. Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ

  77. SageMom says:

I am writing early friends, while my son rests. I have the best report for everyone and I can’t wait to tell you all! This morning, very early, my son was sitting up in a chair! He decided to give walking a try and walked 177 feet!!! He never looked so handsome!! Did I tell you all how much taller he is? He was taller than his father and he isn’t quite standing at full attention quite yet? When he got back to the room, he said, “I did that for you and me, Mom!” Happy tears were flowing everwhere!!! We did this with the help of all of you!!! There are no words to tell you all how I am feeling….SUCCESS!!♥♥ WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES.RIGHT???

  78. SageMom says:

    Thankyou Nan………keep the candle burnin!!!!

  79. Sherry says:

Happy dancin’ for the walking uprightly Dylan!

  80. Sage Mom~~the happy tears are flowing here for you and Dylan. This is such wonderful news. Thank you for sharing the good new with us. You just made my day!

  81. SageMom says:

HAHAHA! I am happy dancin right next to you Sherry!

  82. SageMom says:

Jonathon, Can you believe it??? Can life get any better than this??
He is getting ready for a second walk today.PT will be coming soon and I am getting ready for my 2nd gift of the day! It feels like my Birthday only better! Thankyou Jon..I can’t say it enough, Can you believe this? lol Smiles everywhere!

  83. SageMom says:

Ok….it is back to work now! lol I just had to share it with all you fine people!!!! I shall check in again in the coming days…………..Thankyou all!!!

  84. nan11 says:

SageMom: I missed you somehow in my travels–but I wanted to let you know how happy I am for you and Dylan.

I think you will see mostly steady improvement from here on out.

[I did keep that candle burning, btw. I've been watching it closely and I light a new one from it before it goes out. Kind of like the 'Olympic Flame'.]

  85. Frankie says:

Sage Mom, Thank you for sharing this wonderful news. That was a long walk for Dylan. I’m amazed that he could do that so soon. I am still thinking positive thoughts and sending healing energy Dylan’s way. I look forward to your next update.

  86. Nan11~~I made this for Dylan and I would like to give it to him from you.

  87. nan11 says:

Oh, Snoop. It’s beautiful. Maybe from the both of us? (But, honest, you don’t need to include me.) I do appreciate you’re offering, though.

  88. But I insist….LOL I don’t think I had a proper childhood so I am making up for it.

  89. nan11 says:

The dancing giraffes are precious, Snoop. How do you come up with that stuff? A little bit of humor is a great thing, imho.

They’re perfect. (Maybe my childhood was lacking too, because I love them.)

  90. Frankie says:

Snoop, Your animations are too cute. I don’t have a clue how you do it but keep them coming.

  91. Frankie~~a lawyer from Elora , Ont sent me a Fireworks program years ago. He used to be on the forum I moderated for Sympatico here in Canada. We used to have fun making animations. Tonight I picked up a couple of animated gifs from a website and improvised them a bit. I cannot take full credit for them but I have made animations from scratch. My hands are not as adept as they used to be so I cannot do the real intricate work any more. I did a terrible job trying to lasso Dave’s head. I can’t imagine who the old girl is that he is doing the hoochey koochey with. It is surely not me. I look more like Sophia Loren and like a slow waltz. LOL

  92. Frankie says:

Interesting Snoop. Maybe Dave is dancing with a troll cause none of US look like that. LOL

  93. cali patti says:

Sage Mom what beautiful news. I am so happy for you both. Dylan has me smiling, thank you.

Daves been awol for me at least but has anyone else heard from him? I can’t get on his site (6 days) and looking at the few replys he has I am GUESSING others have had the same problem.

  94. cali patti says:

When you wrote fireworks program my first thought was isn’t that illegal to mail fireworks. OMG I need more coffee. You & Nan are sooooo cute. Perfectly in sync, wow you two must have been practicing.

  95. cali patti says:

Oops, I was wrong about Dave, I just went over there and all is well. I think it is my computer that is messing up.

  96. Animal Rescue

On the Morning of May 18th 2011 my wife noticed a deer in our yard that appeared to be franticly looking for something in the rocks that form a wall on property line in Brush Prairie, WA.

When we first went out with our neighbors, we didn’t see anything but the deer wouldn’t leave our yard.

We went back to our house and watched and after a few minutes the deer came back.

We went out to the area the deer was concentrating on and could hear a baby fawn crying in the rocks.

We moved some of the rocks and smaller boulders and saw baby fawn’s face in the rocks.

He had apparently fallen in or crawled in through one of the gaps and was now trapped.

The larger boulders were too heavy to move and we didn’t want to have the rocks cave in on the baby deer.

We finally called our Clark County Fire District 3.

The B Shift team came out and they were able to move the larger rocks out of the way with the Jaws of Life enough to be able to reach in and pull the baby fawn out and reunite it with its momma.

The fawn was probably stuck in there most of the night.

One of our neighbors took some video clips of the fire department’s rescue.

I edited the clips into this short clip.

After sharing it with some friends they thought that it was just too cute not to share with more people so my neighbor agreed to let me upload the final clip.

    http://www.wimp.com/fawnrescued/

  97. nan11 says:

Snoop: That’s a beautiful story. That little thing must have been so scared after being stuck in there all night, and then adding the noise of that machinery.

Those things are vigilant when it comes to their young–it goes to show you that even the best mom’s can make a mistake.

The end was perfect, when that little thing was running to it’s mother.

(Thank goodness it didn’t break its leg or anything.)

  98. Nan11~~my daughter sent me that video about the little fawn. She knows I do not like things f’wded to me via email but knew I wouldn’t mind seeing that. I am an animal lover, in fact, animals are smarter than some people. Can you imagine that doe leaving her baby behind? Never. She would never smother it and leave it to rot among trash. Thank God for the firemen eh?

  99. Frankie says:

Hi Snoop, Thanks for sharing the video with a happy ending. The baby was not very old. We had twins born on our farm this year. The doe went into the woods and came out about a half an hour later with her two little ones. They looked about the same size as these ones. I’m sure the mom was so happy to have her baby back.
We had our smallest ever mini horse baby this year. She was only 16 inches tall. That is about a quarter the normal size, volume not height, of her half siblings. Unfortunately she only lived four days. It was a hard birth and she didn’t get enough colostrum and we didn’t know. She seemed to be nursing. I like happy endings better.

  100. margaret says:

Snoops, that is a wonderful happy video. Thank you for sharing.

  101. nan11 says:

Snoop: I’m not sure where this comment would most belong, but I wanted to make a point of telling you how much I like your “life raft” with all our names flashing off & on around it.

    Very nice, indeed!

  102. Nan11, I love praise… please bold it and put it in the main post…LOL j/k I had to think of something to take the place of that video that would not work. Goodness knows how many names I forgot to put on the life raft.

  103. cali patti says:

    Nice video, thanks for sharing

  104. Frankie says:

Hi Snoop, I wish Sage Mom would give us another report on Dylan’s progress.

  105. nika says:

I was hoping for another report also. I am so happy everything went well and he is on the road to recovery. Can hardly believe he is up and walking so soon. That is great news Sage Mom.

  106. nan11 says:

Snoop: I just finished listening to WebSleuth’s radio program from last Sunday. It was about the JonBenet Ramsay case. I don’t know how much you followed it, but, speaking for myself, I hardly followed it at all, just what I caught here and there (mostly on CNN).

It’s a three hour show–so I put it on while I had a few household chores to deal with.

I was glad (and sad) that I did. The first hour–in my opinion–is the best. Tricia has on a Dr. Cyril Wecht (a forensic pathologist.) I had never realized the depth of the ‘sexual connotations’ before. I’ll post a link because it’s worth a listen if you have any curiosity about this case.

Websleuths Radio The Truth About The JonBenet Ramsey Case

  107. cali patti says:

Yesterday my sons phone fell out of his truck on his dads job site. Within a few hours he was aware and “all” began looking. Gone! During the day his # was dialed with no answer. About &:)0 pm I tried calling and to my surprize it was answered by a non english speaker. They hung up , my phone rang and it was a young woman who wanted to know who I was and why I called that number. WT*!
I said she was on my sons phone and would she like to return it?
She began questioning me as to where I left it, how long ago etc. OMG, ladies I know fume was comimg out of me. I passed the phone to my husband. He spoke much nicer to them than I did but he also got the run around. We had phone turned off and was told we would not be charged for the calls to Mexico.
Now my husband is working with the ranch foreman to try and discover the person who found phone. We have insurance on the phone and yes there is theft from every crew. Theft is a action everyone trys to keep to the minimum. PPl are fired upon discovery of them stealing.

  108. nan11 says:

Good heavens, Cali. Some people have more nerve than brains. I hope you gave her a good piece of your mind while you had the chance!

  109. cali patti says:

Nan, I was trying to get phone returned or find out who had phone. so no I did not say what I wanted to say, but I think from my tone of voice she understood. Thieve … that is what they are.

With making calls to Mexico on phone I doubt they ever intended to return phone and probably think they can’t return it now. I had hoped they would drop off at a verizon store but no.

  110. cali patti says:

Want to give Cudo’s to Verizon for being prompt and deleting all long distance calls from bill w/o us even knowing they were made. Verizon told us calls had been made to Mexico almost non stop for 2 hours.

  111. cali patti says:

Ranch foreman called and said he has the phone. LOL, guessing someones job is more important than a phone. Yeah!!

  113. FYI~~Just as a matter of interest. I just checked my blog stats and the readership is still maintaining a steady average in here. There are many who come to read and never comment. The day the verdict was handed down, I got over 1350 hits. I average about 400 to 500 now.

My stat counter shows who comes to comment or just to read and how long they stay on this blog. For instance, if someone tells a blogger that they do not read on other blogs about the Anthony case and only comment on theirs, they are fibbing. My stat counter also shows what browser you use, your Internet Service Provider and what kind of puter you are using.

Just to let you know what goes on behind the scenes.

  114. cali patti says:

Thank you Snoop for the information. An honest blogger is so nice.

I like it when you educate us/me.

  115. cali patti says:

    Morning Snoop,
    A lady was trying to comment on your home page and this is the reply she recieved;

a brown box came up and gave her 3 options, comment through your twitter, facebook or log
    into your wordpress account???
    How do I simply comment a mainstreamfair’s?

Hey Snoopy, I recieved this through an email, but if you answer her she will see it.

Or, Tif, If you read this you can email Snoop directly also.

  116. Tiffany… Click on Guest or Log in to your wordpress account, if you are not logged in already. Comment and just click on Post Comment. It will go into moderation and I will approve it… Snoop

  117. cali patti says:

Hey Snoop, I recall now that I had to do a sequence of clicks also. It was either click on guest then post or do opposite, something to get on dave’s post when I had the same problem.
    Thank you….

    I never joined wordpress either.

  118. Tiffany says:

Thank you both for the help :)

    Tiffany (Australia)

  119. Hi Tiffany and Welcome! Make yourself right at home. Here is a link to my latest post…

    http://mainstreamfair.wordpress.com/2011/08/20/im-gonna-rattle-his-rusty-chains/

  120. cali patti says:

    YEAH….! Tiffany is here.
    Thanks Snoopy, very much appreciated.

  121. Cali~~ boomers are claps of thunder as in boom boom… LOL It is blowing a gale here and I would not be suprised to hear some boomers soon. We are getting showers off and on.

  122. cali patti says:

Thanks, that is what I thought you meant but I never heard that term before.
From now on I will say boomers. I like the word and to honor my Canadian friend.

  123. nan11 says:

Snoop; It’s interesting (and a little surprising)–all the stuff you get to know about who visits your blog. Can you tell how long we stay at other blogs/forums?

I ask because I wouldn’t want you to think I am mistruthin’. I have a bunch of them bookmarked and sometimes (on a slow day), I do click on them–just to see what everyone is chatting about.

Usually I don’t stay long–I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything important.

Mostly, I’m here or at WebSleuths–sometimes both at once. (Yikes!)

I do read fairly regularly at Dave’s and Andrea’s, though. I suspect you know that.

One more thing–sometimes it must seem like I’m here for long periods of time. However, I’m usually preparing my comment. Sometimes I get my comment half-typed and then I decide to open Word and type it in there first. Then I just copy and past–but all the while I have your blog opened in a side-by-side arrangement.

So, I’m not snooping around or anything. I’m just being pokey. (And sometimes I go on the hunt for a link after I’ve started to comment, and that can take a while.)

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to keep us informed.

  124. Nan11~~I cannot tell if you visit other blogs. I am like you in that I flit all over the place and read at a few other blogs. I check to see if Richard Hornsby has a new post up and used to read Bill Sheaffer’s posts. Andrea is a great writer and I always read her posts. I faithfully check WESH, WFTV and the Orlando Sentinel, daily.

If someone has my page open and then open other windows, my stat counter will show how long they keep the window open on my blog but I don’t go by that as far as hours they spend in here. You would be surprised where some of the people come from who visit it, Pakistan, China, Japan, Norway etc and of course, the US and Canada. I will go in to my stat counter and copy what I see when someone visits.

  125. Laurali says:

    August 21 12:43 comment~ Snoopy are you crazy? I am 30!!! My heart stopped. I am not prepared to own 40 yet. I have yet to claim 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39….. :)

    Nan 30 is a good age. ;)

Laura, keep an eye out for the middle age spread which precedes menopause and hot flashes. Shortly after that you will drool and dribble. All that soy milk and veggies ain’t gonna save you. ~S

  126. Nan11~~the stat counter only gives the city and country of your ISP server. It does not give the person’s civic address so you can’t hunt anyone down with this program. I can tell when someone comes in under different names because their IP # will be the same. That is what happened and how I found out a certain person used another name and posted a comment meant to disrupt my blog. I have my stat counter showing in my sidebar but most blogs have them but have them set on invisible.

  127. nan11 says:

Snoop: Oouphh! That doesn’t impress me as being easy to read. I think I’d get a headache.

  128. Nan11~ ~ that list is more organized in my stat counter. When I pasted it in here, is looks kind of jumbled up. LOL

  129. Sage Mom~~ I hope you will be able to give us an update soon on how Dylan is making out. Hugs, my friend.

  130. Laurali says:

I am looking forward to the middle age spread. I am always cold and some extra padding might warm me up! :)

SageMom I hope all is well.

  131. Laura~~put some big gobs of peanut butter on a lettuce leaf. Then you will have your middle age spread for the middle aged.

  132. cali patti says:

Nan, I cant copy and paste in here from anywhere. Often I will just let something I read “out” because to quote it it should be written correctly and I have become lazy with copy/paste.

  133. cali patti says:

Happy Belated Birthday Laureli, you are a spring chicken , as my Mom would have called you.
    Your 40′s will be great.
A fantastic age to be. Enjoy.

  134. cali patti says:

Wow, east coast just had an earthquake centered in Virginia, 5.9. I am NOT laughing about injuries but I do know the east coast has felt our west coast earthquakes are over blown. Now they know.

  135. Cali~~I heard that they said it was a 5.9 and in the Washington, DC area near Virginia. No damage or injuries that I know of.

  136. cali patti says:

Yes, the TV shows every standing around miles away. I am smiling only because they have power, no freeway collapse or mountain slides. There are no fires from gas lines or people trapped in buildings, then they are fine. That was a surface quake. Being a life long Californian we get earthquakes all the time. Yes they were startled and it was scary but …
Maybe I am getting to tough as I age.

With all those brick buildings on the east coast that have NOT been reinforced
the east coast would shatter if hit by a huge quake.
I am so glad to share Mother Earths rumblings with my fellow Americans,
as long as no one was seriously hurt.
Leave the big quakes to the west coast, we can handle them. We are tough.
All of above is tonque & cheek.

  137. Cali~~my daughter who is in Chicago just sent me an email. Two of her employees who are in Toronto, Canada said their puter monitors started shaking. So it was felt way up here in parts of Canada… here is another link…

    http://www.wesh.com/news/28951692/detail.html

  138. nan11 says:

Glad that thing was’t any closer to us, Snoop. But speaking of puter monitors shaking–mine is just going black.

Earlier this morning I thought I could hear a faint hissing sound coming from it–almost like a tiny bit of air escaping. I couldn’t detect which part it was coming from, so I tried ignoring it.

All of a sudden, it just wouldn’t wake up from its sleep mode. Now, I’ve had that happen before but this time, it really acted strange when it was loading back up. It is running right now, but it’s slow.

So, I have it partly pulled out and I’m checking all the wires & connections while I wait for ‘puter Doctor to call.

Maybe it was just the heat, but it’s really not that hot.

    Gosh, I hope it’s not serious. :???:

    (I have a feeling I’ve said that before.) {sigh}

I’m goint to try to go over to the other thread to see if I can read your link. (I saw it there but wanted to get this comment in, it case it shuts down again–and I can’t restart it.)

  139. nika says:

We felt the earthquake in Western NC – Not bad but it took an hour to settle the dog down. She felt it before I did.

  140. Nan11~~you have fans in your puter tower that keeps things cool. If your puter is slow when you boot up or if it is slow when it shuts down, that could indicate that your puter is getting dirty from a build up of lint or even cat hair. If your puter heats up too much, it will shut down or freeze. A hissing noise could indicate a power plug not being in secure. Check to see if the all the plugs are connected securely to the back of your tower. Your puter doc must make a good living off you alone. Sometimes it is cheaper to bite the bullet and invest in a new puter. They are not as expensive as they used to be. I would be lost without mine.

  141. Nika~~Omg, the earthquake was some widespread. I just heard that some parts of NC are going to be evacuated in preparation for Hurricane Irene. Mother Nature can sure play havoc to some of us.

  142. nika says:

When the hurricane gets near NC I will just run back to Florida. It’s ballgame time soon and no way the Gators can start without me LOL

  143. cali patti says:

JF everyone else’s info, I am certain our snoopy knows but Dave’s B’day is the 27th.

  144. Cali~~Dave who??? LOL

  145. Nan11~~I heard on the weather channel, yesterday’s earthquake was even felt in Fredericton. That is very close to where I grew up…hmmm.

  146. nan11 says:

Snoop: Really! I hadn’t heard that. It’s kind of unnerving really.

They can occur here, and since they seem to happening in places where they haven’t in years–we must be due.

  147. Nan11~~I heard that on Live at Five or the Weather Channel last night….I was quite surprised. Oh lordy, I don’t want to ever see a tornado around here. Ontario is having severe weather again tonight. I am going to put something in Staff Only if you want to check it out later. I need to try something out in there…

  148. Newbie says:

Doing the happy dance in Kansas. James Kraig Kahler found guilty of capital murder, , four counts of first degree murder, and aggravated robbery !!!! After the A. trial, we all who really hoping we didn’t have a stupid jury. Verdict within three hours of deliberation !

  149. nan11 says:

Newbie: Well, he looks nice and relaxed and pleased with the verdict.

Thank goodness there are still those who believe those who commit crime should be punished.

He killed them because they were no longer perfect? Including the 89 year old grandmother of his wife? And his 16-year-old daughter–whom he had to chase upstairs in order to shoot.

He surely deserved the convictions. MOO

  150. Newbie says:

Nan, he referred to his two daughters as “rotting carcasses” because he believed they were supporting their mother in the divorce. A co-worker from Texas said the family reminded her of the Stepford Wives.
What really got me ….on top of everything, he had no intention of killing his young son who was in the house when the attack was made. The son saw his mother shot. Basically, this young child not only went thru a terrifying experience, but is left with absolutely no immediate family…..,mom, two sisters and his great grandmother dead.
Monday the jury deliberates on life in prison or death. I think they will come back with death. In this case it may be life in prison would be worse for him. In prison he would be rubbing elbows with people “lower” than him and someone would beat the chit out of him for his attitude.

I still am amazed how many in this area were holding their breath because of turnips judgment. It has shook many in their belief that justice will prevail when someone is obviously guilty.

  151. Vicky says:

Newbie – I jumped for joy when I heard about the verdict. That psyco SOB is just plain evil. I might have considered mental defect had he killed his wife, children and the grandma for no apparent reason. But anyone who read about this case knew that anger and revenge were his motivation. My heart breaks for the little one left behind.

  152. cali patti says:

Niki, if your still in NC hope you are doing well.

  153. cali patti says:

We had a 4.6 earthquake last night. Wasn’t scary once I knew what it was. The noise usually comes first. deep rumbling, then the shake. A 4.6 is enough to wake you but not enough to have a person out of bed. These small shakes ease the stress of the earths crust so most of us dont mind them, since we have so many fault lines out here.

Snoop looks like Irene is headed your way. Oops, you make her mad or is she a friend coming to visit?

  154. cali patti says:

Snoop hope Irene did not effect you to much?

  155. Cali patti~~no damage in my neighborhood. Dave sent Irene to give me a good scare and it worked too. Should I get revenge?

  156. margaret says:

Nancy Grace on this new round of Dancing With The Stars!! That ought to be a hoot, if I ever watched.

  157. Laurali says:

Good Morning everyone. I hope you all have a great day. Nan I hope you are safe, I don’t think I have read any comments from you in the past 18 hours.

  158. Oh God, Nancy Grace on the dance floor, I just cannot picture her staying on her feet.

I heard Jeff Warren is in an induced coma. He has been starving himself again. They said he has other medical issues and is in critical condition. I wonder who has taken over his compound.

  159. nan11 says:

Laurali: Yep, I’m safe. I’ve been quiet (but I didn’t realize it had been that long since I commented.)

My Aunt called me yesterday to let me know that members of a family who had lived next door to us for years were in town to take care of some business at the cemetery.

I managed a little meeting but it was so bitter-sweet, I don’t think I’ve recovered.

You are very sweet to check on me. Thank you.

  160. Hey there Nan11!! Things are pretty quiet in here except that Nancy Grace is going to shake a leg on the dance floor. Now that is Breaking News! LOL

  161. I celebrated my daughter’s birthday with her last evening. Her hubby was working out of town and her daughter now lives in Toronto. The Chinese cuisine was yummy. I have an addiction for sweet and sour chicken balls.

  162. nan11 says:

Snoop: Sounds like you had a great time!!!

I love sweet and sour chicken balls, pork balls; or, my great favorite, battered jumbo shrimp. Oooh, that’s tasty.

I’m actually worring about whether or not Nancy Grace is well enough to be on “Dancing With The Stars”. She had a big cancer operation not too long ago. Surely she checked with her doctors, though.

Anyway, I am kind of looking forward to it.

  163. Nan11~~I didn’t know Nancy was operated on for cancer. Did it say where the cancer was? I know she had quite a time when the twin were born, something wrong with her lungs?

  164. nan11 says:

Snoop: Now, I’m wracking my old brain for details. Better still, I found a link. I guess it wasn’t cancer–it came back benign. (Sorry, Snoop, I should have Googled first–I really thought it was cancerous.)

Nancy Grace: Mass removed by surgery not malignant
November 29, 2010|By Philip Rosenbaum, Nancy Grace Producer

(Now, I’m not sure about this–but I do think she has some kind of lung thing going on where she is susceptible to blood clots in her lungs. I think she developed that while she was carrying the twins and she almost died, herself. The condition has a name but I can’t think of it right now.)

  165. Nan11~~ I cannot see Nancy doing anything on a dance floor except a slow waltz. She is no spring chicken and she is overweight for her height. I never realized how short she was until Dave sent me a pic he took of her at the trial. She had those twins quite late in life and almost lost her own life in the bargain. I know a lot of people can’t stand her but I guess in the real, she is comical and very friendly.

  166. nan11 says:

Snoop: Here is a link to a little blurb Mr. Boedeker did on the new season of Dancing With The Stars.

He says if Nancy falls, it will be bigger than Marie Osmond fainting.

You never know, she might surprise us.

I just can’t picture her in some of those get-ups.

With my luck, I’ll forget when it’s on and miss it–if you think of it, would you give it a little mention in your Coffee Shop?

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Nancy Grace reflects smart casting
    — posted by halboedeker on August, 30 2011 9:53 AM

All jokes aside, she is a real hard-working gal. I hope she takes good care of herself, though.

  167. Nan11~~I normally do not watch dancing with the stars so someone will have to remind me. I don’t even know which channel it is on. I used to watch it a long time ago. I imagine it will be on the news when Nancy will dance.

On NG tonight, I was catching bits and pieces of a young couple throwing a newborn in a dumpster. Did you see that too?

  168. Frankie says:

As soon as I heard about Nancy going on Dancing With The Stars I Said to hubby, “there’s another one that wants to loose weight”. Most of the women that go on the show chubby end up dropping a lot of weight then go on to endorse some weight loss plan and credit the plan for the loss and are well paid for doing that.
I am not a Nancy Grace fan. I like her work but not the way she treats her guests or the way she has things repeated like she isn’t sure if we, the public got it the first time. I wish her no harm and I sure hope she is in good shape because it will be grueling.

  169. Frankie~~I stopped watching NG for the reasons you mentioned. She is so rude to her guest panelists. I think that is all prearranged as I notice some of the guests can’t hold back their laughs when NG goes on the rampage. Nancy learned the hard way when she interrogated Melissa Duckett. I expect CNN paid her hefty fine. That case was a long time before it got settled.

  170. nan11 says:

Snoop: Yes, I did see that about the baby. Very sad. The baby was wrapped in a Christening blanket and had a little ring on [her] finger. I wasn’t clear if there was anything covering the baby or if someone had just laid her on top of the garbage.

Because I always seem to use the Anthony case as my yardstick, I don’t see the same measure of disrespect. Imo, that young girl wanted her baby found. She didn’t leave her baby for the wild animals to disfigure.

Nancy Grace can annoy me sometimes; however, it’s JVM that really kindles my anger. The night before last when she ran the pictures of those two obese people who had abused the twin boys–one to the point of death, is a good example.

Mitchell was the leader of the pack espousing about the ‘evil’ look of the people charged with the unthinkable crimes.

I looked long and hard at the pictures of those two people, and I did not see the evilness in their eyes that I see in the eyes of Casey Anthony.

What was Mitchell looking at? Their unattractiveness? There slovenliness? Maybe just the fact that they didn’t have a sleazy lawyer that she wanted an interview with?

Thus they had committed an atrocious crime; they were evil; and society should promptly punish them–says JVM!!! Let’s lock ‘em up and throw away the key! Suddenly–at last–this was JVM on the side of justice!

But not for the teflon murderess, you understand. No, not that one. That one is petite, and rather hot-’not’–but JVM thinks so.

All of us ‘not too bright’ viewers, need to get a life and leave the murdering she-wolf alone–wish her well even!

So the wolf can make her millions and JVM will get her interview with Baez the clown.

And who the heck cares about the beautiful baby the ‘hot-trotting’ she-wolf destroyed with her own two hands. Heck, that was three years ago!!!

“Imperfect Justice” Mr. Ashton will call his book, and imperfect justice it was and always will be. Mr. Jeff Ashton knows the correct score and always did.

“Issues” with Jane Velez-Mitchell is not worth the air time it is given.

    All My Opinion Only.

  171. Karen C. says:

Nan11- If I may respectfully disagree a teensy tad, not regarding JVM in general (I call her the Screamer- although I think her heart’s overall in the right place- her appeal, I imagine), but regarding the repulsive (morally and YES!- physically too!) couple who killed their boy in Texas. I see your point that she attracted attention to the pics A LOT but, know what? They STARVED and DEHYDRATED their child, so I think the contrast of their sadistic behavior with the fact that they clearly don’t miss any opportunities to engorge themselves disgracefully is perfectly fitting given the context. If they had killed him in some other fashion I might view the editorial effect on JVM differently. But, Nope, these two barely ambulatory walruses ought to get every bit of criticism they are due heaped on them and then some.

I spent some time last night after work very upset by this story (recorded)- and looking to see if either of these two had a job, any job, and Nope- it appears they don’t. If they do, no one seems to have found this out- I’m going to take a wild guess that they’ve made themselves “disabled”(!) And I’m guessing they were able to sit on their fat ass*s for FIVE DAYS stuffing their faces while the boy had to stand on an “X” one of them must’ve been able to bend down to make with tape (but how- they can hardly waddle) on the floor, in front of the window, baking in the sun like a casserole- with NO WATER even. Grrr!

  172. nan11 says:

Karen C: Yes, what they did was beyond comprehension.

But how is it any worse than putting duct tape over the month and nose of your 34 month old baby, driving around for three or four days with her body in the trunk of the car, and then throwing her in the local dump? She left her own baby’s body there to be torn apart by animals!

Did Caylee Marie Anthony not die a horrible death? Did she not suffer? Was her body not left to undergo every final insult?

And then hiding, and lying, and stealing and on and on and on.

And that murderess is free. She is free. Set free by the Pinellas 12. But that does not make her innocent.

I’m not saying the two unattractive people are not just as bad–but I don’t think they are any worse either.

They are just not attractive enough to suit Mitchell’s delicate taste for beauty and they have no high-powered jewel jinglers behind them.

Many people won’t agree with this, I know. But it’s my opinion.

  173. JVM had no right to make fun of the Texas couple’s obesity no more than she would want anyone to put down lesbians. This crime was so hideous and that poor boy was tortured for five days and his little body was totally dehydrated at death. I would like to see the couple be denied their food and water and made to bake in the sun. They should be made an example of. Of course, this will not happen in Amercia. They will probably be declared mentally unfit to stand trial and locked away in an institution. Hopefully the one surviving twin can be rehabilitated. JVM should condemn the actions of these people and not judge them by their outward appearance. I agree they are the scum of the earth for what they put that boy through.

As for Caylee, it is difficult to get rid of our built up rage because her murderer walked away free. Caylee didn’t do a damn thing to deserve being smothered to death. God knows how much she suffered before she breathed her last and was finally set free from her sadistic mother. I keep the faith that Caylee’s murderer is going to live in her own private hell and run scared for the rest of her life.

For our own well-being , we have to let go. Harboring pent up hostility towards others can make a person both physically and mentally ill. It acts as a form of stress that has been known to cause, not only cancer, but heart related diseases. It is not an easy task to release our anger and harden to these dreadful crimes against children because we are just humans living in one f****ed up world.

  174. Frankie says:

I watched JVM too. She said what I thought about, starving a child and the fact that they don’t look like they ever miss any meals. I’m not making fun of them. I try not to make fun of anyone. I agree with JVM stating that particular observation. They are cruel and inhuman beings that deserve whatever punishment they get and that has nothing to do with size.

  175. Here is a pic of my siamese twins cucumbers. I propped it up on another cuke to take the pic. My neighbor planted my garden this year and picked these today. It is like a jungle out there with all the rain we had.

  176. Sherry says:

    Nice!

What do you do with them? Vinegar with salt and pepper or a cream sauce? (that’s not a razz but me licking my lips!)

Our cukes are starting to come back to life. The heat and the rain wilted them and they got covered with powder mildew. Same with the zucchinis. But now they are going like crazy with new growth! You know, we get lots of bad bugs every year and I thought that I had dead zucchinis one year when the bad bugs had invaded them. I ripped them out, saddened by my loss of zukes. Thing is, I found out too late that they will reroot themselves!

Another thing I learned just this year-we didn’t have enough tomato cages for all my volunteers so I just let them sprawl. By golly! The animals haven’t touched them and they look alot healthier than my staked ones! Hmmmm….

  177. Frankie says:

Wow! What fertilizer do you use?

  178. Sherry~~ when my family was bigger, I made pickles out of the cukes and canned the tomatoes. I supplied the neighbors and family with fresh veggies. I still enjoy a cucumber sandwich but don’t eat them that often.

BTW, you get way more production out of a tomato plant if you do not cage it. I always caged mine but actually they are a vine plant.

  179. Frankie, 6-12-12 fertilizer and sheep or cow manure. The ones in the pic are long English cukes and we train them to grow up stakes. We call them our high risers… LOL They grow to the top of the stake and then come down the other side. Actually, the ones in the pic should have been picked a couple weeks ago as they should not get that big. We had a perfect growing season this year. I used to feed my plants Miracle grow every couple of weeks but my neighbor did not give them any extra food other than the fertilizer when he planted the seeds this year. I also used to side dress the veggies with well rotted compost that I made from garden and kitchen refuse.

  180. Frankie says:

Thanks for the info. I have never had such small tomato plants as this year. Water from a hose is not as good as a rain and as I have mentioned, we had a dry summer. I sometimes use horse manure ( because I have lots & lots of it) composted but it tends to not only make plants big but it gives you lots of weeds. I normally have tomato plants taller than me but this year they are not much more than two feet.
I have a great fresh cucumber pickle recipe. It only takes about 20 min. and you can eat it right away or they keep for over a week in the frig. It’s really a cucumber & onion salad in a brine. Very crunchy and yummy.

  181. Sherry says:

Good morning, Ladies of the Garden!

Snoops, That is something I also noted-how prolific the produce from my sprawling tomato plants. Being that they are volunteers they are all the cherry and grape variety though there are some small yellow that are shaped like pears and some orange ones, too. This year, though, there are some big ones, too. They are yummy! I make sauce so I need all of the tomatoes I can get. My garden is 18′ by 40′ (not sure what that is in meters-heehee!) and it used to have beets and carrots and potatoes in it. After my mild stroke I noticed I didn’t have the energy to be doing those veggies. OK, the beets were a mess I couldn’t take to doing them much longer but don’t tell my hubs that. Anyhoo, its all tomatoes, cukes and zukes. With Strawberries, too.

Frankie, a friend of mine couldn’t believe how big my tomoto plants were and came over one time to snap a pic of them. She didn’t see me in them picking produce. I scared the bajeebies out of her when I shouted Good Morning to her. LOL!

  182. I may have to start a garden thread. Here is what my jungle looked like a couple yrs ago…taken on a rainy day and view from the outside… It is totally w/chair accessible.

  183. The first year and it was under construction… I had 2- 4ftx10 planters full of everlasting strawberries. I had to cover them with netting as the robins kept eating them as they ripened.

  184. I am going to bore you to death… here is a shot taken from the roof my house.. the garden has taken on many different looks each summer. It was built in 1982 and I gardened up to a couple yrs ago. Some of the planters are dismantled now…

  185. Karen C. says:

Wow, Snoop- I am SO impressed! Looks idyllic… probably isn’t so idyllic to work on though!

Karen, it was a labor of love and what a stress reliever! House work is ‘work’ but gardening is a ‘joy’.
Just me, the bugs and nature with not a care in the world except for being chased by a hornet. LOL~S

  186. Every gardener must have flowers to keep the bees happy and pollunating… top left in background are cukes growing up the stakes… I had flowers planted quite close together as it keep the ground moist and the shading elimates most weeds… ahhh I fed them good so they would not deplete all the nourishment from the soil… hell, oh the green thumbing …those were the days!

PS, a potella (sp) shrub in the lawn space makes it look more crowded than what it really is..

  187. Frankie says:

You have a lovely garden. We often talked about building a garden with raised beds because of my back problem. It never happened but I still have a very small garden. I just can’t do much physical work anymore or I pay for days after.

  188. Laurali says:

Snoopy your garden is beautiful. My thumbs are not green. I have a few plants that I have yet to butcher/slaughter. I would love to see more photos. :)

We are all settled into the new place. I am sure my back is broken, went to the doctor today and she put me on a steroid for a few days. Hopefully that will help.

  189. cali patti says:

NG is also donating any monies made from DWTS to Missing & Exploited Childrens fund.

Snoop, Good that Irene didn’t more than blow at you.

  190. nan11 says:

Snoop: Your garden is beautiful. (So are the cukes.)

  191. Sherry says:

I love your garden! I’m jealous.

Ah, marigolds! My favorites. I surround my veggie garden with yellow Stella D’Oros and marigolds. I plant a ton of them every year. In my window boxes I plant impatiens but they didn’t do so well this season(I have to stop buying them from the one nursery-it happens every year with the impatiens when i get them from there), so I replaced them with the marigolds. I really didn’t hold out any hope for them surviving since it is in light shade (honest, no sun but the house is light color and there is the driveway that reflects the sun) but, lo and behold! they are doing fantastic and I’m getting loads of compliments. Who knew? I could have saved alot of money all these years, lol!.

BTW, that hosta of yours needs dividing. Hahaha! I have a ton of hostas and I’m just getting too old to dig ‘em up and divide ‘em~

  192. Sherry~~you wouldn’t be jealous of my garden this year. It is full of weeds. I told my neighbor if he planted it, he had to weed it… I don’t know how the veggies survived. LOL

Impatients need the shade and no direct sun. I used to plant them inside the gate of the garden and they did wonderful. Marigolds are hardy little devils and are suppose to deter flea beetles and slugs. Not so one year, the slugs stripped them right down to the stem. I used to put shallow pans of beer down around the flowers, which are grown directly in the ground and not in planters. The slugs all got drunk and bloated up. They sure love the beer. The only downfall is that you have to keep filling the pans up after a rain.

Sherry, would you like some Hosta? I have given hosta roots to all the neighbors but that sucker keeps growing. It gets fed from all the food that drains down from the planters. I gave half of the plant away to a neighbor a couple years ago, in the spring, and then mine quadrupled through that summer.

  193. Sherry says:

Oh no! No hostas, please! I have tons of them. I’ve lost count of the number of different varieties I have. I have a tiny one named PoPo that was my neighbors-she bought the little bugger because its what she called her dad. By golly, that little thing has spread a few times larger than when i got it-lol! I collected hostas because we had a shady back-40 thanks to my neighbor’s trees. Guess what?. He cut all of them down after I planted my lovely hosta garden (which had bleeding hearts and astilbes and other shade plants).

Hey! I love getting the slugs drunk! I’ll even have a beer with them! heehee

  194. Sherry says:

I meant to mention about toad houses. They can be made from broken terra cotta pots and plopped in the gardens. I put my little saucers (well, the ashtrays which I no longer use) under these toad houses. They are protected from the rain. I partly bury these pots and use my houseplant waterer filled with beer to fill them. The toads never went in these houses anyhoo. :???:

Oh, I also use beer as a compost starter. One can to a 20 gallon (sorry-don’t know the liters amount!) sprayer and spray the whole works in the pile. Just make sure its not going to rain for a few days before applying it.

I also have heard about using copper wire made into rings to circle the plants that slugs like. We live by the river and we have tons of tiny shells busted up in our soil. I’ve heard that slugs don’t like it because it cuts them up, Yeah. Riiight…

Say, maybe we do need a gardening thread! Then Frankie could give us her pickle recipe.

  195. margaret says:

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say to everyone that sometimes we let ourselves get pulled down in all the unjust going on in our world, but today I received an e-mail from my nephew that reminds me that Our God is in charge and we just need to leave it to Him. Mitch is now 40 years old, has always had such bad seizures, he was never allowed to have a drivers liscense, could not live alone, took pills all day long to keep away seizures. In Nov. 2010 he had anew surgery that could have left him blind as well if it went wrong. Mitch is a sweetheart and went for it. They isolated the problem at a tiny space in his brain, shaved hs head, cut his scalp off and fixed it. We have been praying every day. Mitch went back to Drs last week, he has had no more seizures, he is off all meds but two and can stop them in Nov…….. Today Mitch went car shopping,he has been allowed to get a drivers liscense. He started working at wal-mart since he graduated so he has his own money. Poor baby is whole familys kid so he is laughing at us cautioning him about driving like he were a 16 year old. He is one happy ,thankful person. There are some really good things happening out there and I just have to be patient and very thankful every day………………………………Snoops, I am so jealous of your garden, it is beautiful. another sign of gods blessings.

  196. nan11 says:

Margaret: What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing.

They are finally beginning to understand our brains a little better. It’s amazing, though.

He must be very courageous. He took a big risk–but, wow, was it worth it.

  197. Margaret~~what a joy to come in here and read something positive. God love your nephew! It is amazing what the doctors can do now and, of course, we know who guides their hands.

When we tune into the news, did you notice that 90 % of what is aired is negative? Very seldom do we hear of the small miracles that happen somewhere in the world daily.

Margaret, my garden was my utopia. I only tend a few perennial flowers now as Old Arthur made me put down the trowel. My neighbor plants for me now so I still get lots of fresh veggies. Today it was new potatoes, carrots and string beans and I almost forgot some onions and a couple delicious tomatoes. You cannot beat the flavor of your own fresh veggies that haven’t sat in a supermarket wilting away. My neighbor and I share all the goodies and we give a lot away to other neighbors and friends.

  198. Laurali says:

I love fresh veggies. We buy from local farmers. They work hard for their money and it is much fresher than store bought.

Margaret~ Thanks for sharing your story. How amazing at 40 finally being able to drive and be medicine free. I am happy for you and your family.

  199. Sherry says:

margaret, I am so glad you shared your nephew’s good news! I’m smiling like nobody’s business and filled with thanks to God for His love and care for us all. All of the very best for your nephew! God bless his aunt margaret, too.

  200. Sherry~~geez, I am sorry that I missed reading your comment on Sept 2nd at 1:12am. There are a lot of tricks of the trade when it comes to gardening. I had no idea about beering the compost pile. I am not a beer drinker so had to bum some beer from my neighbor or buy a six pack. The slugs couldn’t get at my veggies in the planters but they attacked the flowers planted directly in the soil. When I put refuse in my composter, I used to add a couple shovels of soil. I turned it about every two or three weeks to keep it aerated. The soil I made was great as a side dressing for the big feeders, like tomatoes and cukes.

You are going to laugh at how fanatic I was about my garden. I would not allow anyone to call the soil in my garden, ‘dirt.’ I said if the soil got tracked in the house and ended up on my kitchen floor, that is when it becomes dirt. I got teased so much about that. My garden was a neighborhood hangout for both children and adults. I used to let some of the neighborhood children help water the planters and they loved it. I would let them pick out their very own cuke and they would watch it grow until they took it home. They also loved the carrots which they hosed off and couldn’t eat fast enough. Most of those kids are married now and living elsewhere. Maybe they have gardens of their own.

BTW, slugs do not like broken up egg shells. I never put egg shells in my composter because there were so many worms working away in it. I have some great pickle and green tomato chow recipes also how to can ( in Mason jars) ripe tomatos that are to die for.

  201. nan11 says:

Oh, Snoop. Green tomato chow!! That is sooo good. Mum used to make that and it was ‘to die for.’

Mmmm ~~ the taste and the smell! I’m in heaven just thinking about it!

I’ve made it myself using her recipe, but it’s one of those that specifies a certain amount of sugar and then says to continue adding until it suits your own taste.

I find it really difficult to judge the sweetness while it is hot in the pot with the vinegar still fresh. Heaven knows how hard I’ve tried.

Thank you for reviving those pleasant memories, though.

Dad always had a big garden (or it seemed big to us.) Everyone’s favorite was new potatoes and wax (yellow) beans, so he planted rows of them. There were always tomatoes and peas, (oh, fresh garden peas!), and onions, and cucumbers, and rutabaga, and carrots. Always summer-savory and sometimes dill.

Sometimes he would add a couple of rows of ‘cow’ corn, and that would grow so big and tall. We would have such fun running through that!

As we got older, he would save us a half of row (or sometimes a whole row). He would take suggestions as to what to plant in there. We would pick things like green peppers or gourds. (The yield would be so great some years, we would regret our choice.)

It’s a cliche, I know, but – those were the days.

Maybe that’s what every neighbourhood worth it’s salt needs – at least one garden.

  202. Sherry says:

heehee! Your place sounded like the fun place to be as a kid! I can tell you that those adult kids are remembering the good times growing up and the garden at Snoop’s! I grew up with a neighbor like that. He’d have us neighbor kids pick dandelions in a nearby field so he could make his wine. We got 50 cents per 5 gallon bucket full and a small glass of wine when it was all done. He’d haul us to his daughter’s farm and greenhouse to pick green beans and help can the tomatoes. Speaking of that, I’m canning up my first batch of tomato sauce this coming week-yay! And! I will be pickling green tomatoes, too. I use those small ones for that. Yummy, if you like canned artichoke hearts (that’s what they taste like).

  203. Nan11~~when making the green tomato chow chow, if you use equal amounts of sugar and white vinegar, you can’t go wrong. If you try and taste the chow when it is cooking, the vinegar takes your breath away. I used my mother’s recipe and no doubt it was my g/mother’s too. I used to make two different kinds of chow chow, one with pickling spices (in a cheese cloth bag) and the other recipe called for cinnamon, cloves and ginger. I really like the latter one. I found the recipe in the Joy of Cooking.

Your dad’s garden sounds identical to the huge gardens we had. Our peas were the pole type and you could get lost walking through the rows. I remember helping mom shuck bushels of peas for canning. We had veggies and apples to do us all winter. They were stored in a root cellar along with all Mom’s pickles and preserves. Dad had a huge potato bin where we stored the potatoes and carrots. We also had our own apple trees and a big barrel of apples in that cellar. Geez, looking back we had it made…expecially when we raised our own pork and had lots of deer meat, partridge and I cannot forget the moose. I used to love the fall of the year and the aroma in our kitchen.

Now I am hungry for homemade bread with real butter, apple pie and some of mom’s early cucumber pickles.

  204. Nan11~~you probably were familar with ‘hodge podge’… lots of people still make that if they are lucky enough to get the fresh veggies for it. Make with real cream, it is to die for.

I had a brother( now deceased) who had a commercial green house in NB and also a sister who ran one but she retired from it due to her health. NB gets lots of thunder storms and the lightning fixes nitrogen in the soil so that is why they have such good gardens. This year, we got more electrical storms than usual so maybe that is why I have a jungle out there.

  205. Karen C. says:

Hmmm- at my church we have huge power lines running along the ridge right by it and the berries that grow right below are extraordinary- and they keep coming for 3-4 weeks. Most areas I know of around here the berries peter out in two. Rodents stay away though, why our one parking area was perfect for jousting during the Renn. Faire- no critter holes, which are always a problem at jousts.

Snoop: Equal amounts of vinegar & sugar? Gee, I’m tempted to dig out the recipe and try a batch. It’s the one where you put the pickling spices in the cheese cloth bag. (Mum used to make 3 or 4 smaller bags–she said it distributed the flavour better.)

I cheat now-a-days and buy ‘Habitant’ Green Tomato Chow Chow at the grocery store. It’s a good second, but I find it thin. Mum taught me to hand slice the tomatoes, so it turns out chunkier and thicker. Oh, a chow sandwich on home made bread–wow, I would jump over the moon for that. (The store bought kind is a little runny for a sandwich.)

I’m definitely going to make a note of your advice and at least attach it to my recipe.

Yep, Mum used to make hodge-podge for us sometimes. (I’m lactose-intolerant so it doesn’t always agree with me.) I’d usually be underfoot begging her to take me out some vegetables before she added the cream.

One thing I dealy loved was when she would mash the beans and potatoes altogether. She would usually do that in late summer (about now, iirc), when the last of the beans were older and a little tough. The flavour was wonderful, though. I believe she added some butter and cream to the mixture but I would take the risk and enjoy anyway!

Oh, the ‘smells’. The wonderful ‘smells’. Sometimes I think I miss the ‘smells’ more than anything.

Snoop: I never knew that– about the relationship to ligtning storms and nitrogen in the soil. That is really interesting.

Ahh, did your brother live in a city a little to my north? If we’re talking my vicinity, I’d be willing to bet that I live very near.

Please don’t feel obligated to answer. (You have caught me being curious–possibly nosey is a more apt word.) I do know better, and I will understand.

  208. Sherry says:

    Nova Scotian Hodge Podge
    Ingredients
1 cup fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
1 cup fresh wax beans, trimmed and snapped
    1 cup diced carrot
    1 cup diced turnip
    2 cups cubed new potatoes
    6 tablespoons butter
    1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
    1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup water
    Directions
    1. Place the green beans, wax beans, carrots and turnips into a saucepan and add enough water to cover the vegetables. Lightly salt the water, and bring to a boil. Cook for about 1/2 hour, then add the potatoes and cook for another 1/2 hour. Stir in butter and if desired, cream.
    2. Mix together the flour and 1/2 cup water, and pour into the soup. Cook for a few more minutes to thicken. Remove from heat and serve hot.

I was going to give just the website for the recipe but there was a Survey pop-up-nothing bad but just irritating~

  209. Nan11~~my brother lived in Harvey and then McAdam. He mostly specialized in bedding plants, flowers and veggies while my sister, near Fredericton, had the bedding plants from the green house and veggies from their huge gardens for sale. I have 2 more brothers, gardeners and another, who is now deceased, had a lovely garden. Heck, I wasn’t about to be left out of the family tradition. LOL

  210. Sherry~~I do not put turnip in my hodgepodge. If a person is lactose intolerant, they can just use butter, salt and pepper on the drained veggies and have some nice Lady Ashburn pickles or cut up cukes and tomatoes on the side. Sautéd ham slices or sausage go good with a meal like that if you prefer some meat.

My hodgepodge cooked with the least amount of water..

    green and yellow string beans
    new baby carrots
    new small potatoes
peas, edible pod ones or peas out the pod
3 or 4 small onions and their green onion stems

You can scrub the carrots and potatoes with a veggie brush so peeling is unnecessary.
Leave small onions whole and cut up the green stems
Boil slowly all together except the peas from the pods. Put them in the last five minutes.
Add cream, salt and pepper to taste and yummy.

  211. nan11 says:

Snoop: Thanks for replying. I was brought-up withinin walking distance of one of the bigger (popular) nuseries in my area, so I was wondering if we had almost been neighbours at one time.

Sherry: Did you ever try it? I’m not a Nova Scotian, but that dish is really a Maritime tradition. Everyone loves it. We would all agree that the flavour is even better if you harvest the veggies just minutes before you start the preparation.

We would always add a little bit of onion–but I think we added onion to everything, so maybe that’s not too common. Good flavour, though.

  212. Sherry says:

I’ve never tried this Hodge Podge. I do remember our family ate a veggie soup-it was thick with veggies of all kinds fresh from the garden. Mom made it in a pressure cooker. She never should have made anything in one of those contraptions as she would blow that plug every time. LOL It didn’t have any cream in it but that is something I’d love to add. Does anyone know if it would freeze well with the cream in it? If not, I’d have to alter the recipe for a smaller portion or omit the cream.

  213. Sherry, I would not recommend freezing it as potatoes do not freeze well unless they are creamed potatoes. I have frozen beef stew and the potatoes crystalize and their texture is awful. BTW, I am a transplant from New Brunwick. I love this province but the best gardens are in NB or the Annapolis Valley here in N.S.

  214. margaret says:

OK someone send me some Hodge Podge and the chow chow, I am sitting here drooling over the thoughts of that food. I did some peas ,corn and tomatos this year, a few butterbeans. The deer really enjoyed the green beans, that is all they ate. Years ago,,, I was a lot younger,,,,, I was into gardening big time. I had my own gas powered tiller and no one touched my garden. One day I stopped it and almost reached down to pull some weeds from blades, when I saw two little eyes looking back. I had a rattlesnake twisted around blades and he couldn’t get off Scared me so bad I left snake tiller and all right there. My garden got plowed with tractor after that. Those really were the good old days Oh to be always young and full of energy.

  215. Margaret~~one rattle snake would end my gardening days for ever. Thank God we don’t have any in NB or NS.

They say it you put some human hair or pieces of perfumey bars of soap in some mesh even the toe of an an old panty hose and tie it to a stake and put a couple of them near your garden, it will deter the deer. The other is human urine but I don’t think I would want to squat and squirt in tin cans around your garden. Not with that rattle snake ready to bite my butt.

  216. nan11 says:

Snoop: I’m just seeing your reply of 8:04 p.m. Lady Ashburn pickles–Woot!! Woot!! They are delicious. (I used to have good luck making them.)

If I caught Mum in time, you’re suggestion is exactly how I would eat my hodge podge. Yummy! Everyone in my family used to smirk thinking I was missing out, but I never agreed with them (For good reason.)

You’re recipe is exactly right, too. Mum never put turnips (or rutabaga) in it. Mum would say they are way to strong, especially this time of year. IIRC, Dad used to leave them in the ground until after the first frost. I think he used to say it ‘sweetened’ them.

When I cook turnip (or rutabaga, which I like better), I get my slices all ready and put them in a bowl to which I add about 1 tbsp of white sugar, then I fill the bowl with cold water and put it in the freezer until it forms a thin coating of ice on top. Then I just slip them in my pot and cook on the stove top normally.

(You can just prepare them right in your pot and set pot and all in the freezer for the ice coating to form, but I’m afraid that taking my pot from one extreme to the other so quickly will damage it.)

Anyway, I’m regretting not going to the market this morning.

  217. Nan11~~you are so right when you say the veggies are best straight from the garden. The skins on the new potatoes and carrots will brush right off when you wash them. The best corn is peaches and cream, straight from the farmer to the boiling water. I microwave my corn right in the husks, ten minutes and do them one at a time. Of course, I haul the whiskers out of the tip and check for anything that may wiggle before they get nuked. The corn is some hot when you go to shuck it but you don’t lose one bit of the flavor.

  218. nan11 says:

Snoop: I don’t know how you get the corn peeled without burning yourself. My (late) husband used to always cook it that way, and it was delicious–I’ve never eaten better.

However, he used a pair of oven mitts and just powered off those husks. I, on the other hand, can’t seem to get it accomplished.

I just gave up, and reduced myself to boiling it. And, yes, only peaches and cream, of course!

  219. Nan11~~One year I decided to add some sweet red pepper and celery diced to the Lady Ashburn pickles and have made them that way ever since. My sister just uses diced deseeded cukes and chopped onions in the mustard sauce. I am a zesty old woman. You should see some of my beef stews, everything goes in but the kitchen sink and my doughboys are to die for. Damn, I am hungry. I had pea soup for supper and a piece of apple pie along with a toss salad earlier. I will take credit for the salad, the other came from the supermarket. Cooking for one is the pits.

  220. I don’t think I will change my name to farmer Jonathon just yet. Upthread, I just told Margaret to tie some human hair or soap to a ‘steak’ instead of a ‘stake’… LOL I hope she didn’t run off to the butchers to buy a few T-Bones to get rid of the deer that are eating her string beans. We did have a groundhog eating the tops of the beets and carrots. The beets and carrots survived but I hope the groundhog didn’t. Each year my neighbor puts feeders out for the finches. They would visit my garden to drink from the bird bath or water buckets placed around the garden. It is strange, the only thing they would eat is a few nibbles of the beet greens.

  221. nan11 says:

Doughboys! Oh, Snoop–I don’t think you’ve missed a single one of my true loves. I’m wracking my brain now, to remember my recipe.

It’s a real old one–we didn’t put milk. I can’t remember the amounts but I think it was just flour, baking powder, salt and water for moisture. Drop by generous heaping tablespoons (no itty-bitty little things for me), and keep the pot closed tight for fifteen to twenty minutes. Voila! These magical, fluffy, delicious little critters would appear when we lifted the cover.

Ha! I read that tip about putting the soap on a ‘steak’ and filed it away for future use (in case I get lucky & get to move to the country)–I new exactly what you meant, the two spellings never even crossed my mind. I guess spelling is not my forte, (as you may have noticed.)

I appreciate that tip about adding celery to Lady Ashburn pickles. Sometimes I have add a little bit of red pepper–just for color. I find them so pretty with little bits of red in them. I bet the celery really would add to the taste, though. Gee, I don’t know which I would rather make–pickles or chow.

It really is a problem when one lives alone, though–if I don’t watch it, I begin to look like a human sausage. Then it’s a struggle to get that off.

  222. Nan11~~ for my doughboys, flour, baking powder, salt, cut in some margarine, and water. I find Tea Bisk is great for making doughboys, just follow the recipe for biscuits and substitute the milk for water. You add a bit more water if necessary. I like mine gigantic too so spoon out generous gob of it. I try to spoon it on top of the veggies instead of right down in the stew juice. That way they are nice and dry and rise better.

Isn’t talking about food so much fun? We will all end up weighing twice our size by spring. I better not mention my chocolate fudge cake. Biscuits are a trigger food and I try not to have them in the house because I crave them like a person would, peanuts.

  223. nan11 says:

I’m going to dream of food tonight, I’m sure of it. Oh, well! It’s better than some of the things I dream of, sometimes.

And this is coming on the ‘heels’ of strawberry season. I really indulged in those, too. I slice them up and sprinkle sugar on top of them at night before I go to bed. Then the next day they are surrounded in this delicious juice.

A like this just spooned over tea biscuits. (My idea of stawberry shortcake.) Yummy! Yummy! (I seldom indulge in the whipped cream–only if I have company and then I just add a little on mine, for appearance.)

And stawberry season came on the heels of that dang depressing trial. So, it’s been a loosing battle this year.

But, my cats are in and safe–so I shan’t complain.

  224. Nan11~~we must indulge in comfort foods once in a while. Like blueberry biscuits. You know when I was a kid, I turned my nose up at gingerbread, squash and rhubarb etc and now I would kill for them. I make a light yellow cake and put an extra tsp of baking powder in it, spread it on a lightly greased and floured baking sheet. When it is cooked, cut it in generous squares and cover it with stewed rhubarb. Dream whip is optional. You can combine strawberries and rhubarb. Now I am back to being hungry so my stomach will growl all nite.

Cali Patti is on the other post talking about rattle snakes.. I must give that girl a road map…off I go to see what she is up to.

  225. Sherry says:

Well, I got the scoop on those pickles!
A WP blog on her and the pickles~
    http://ladyashburnhampickles.com/

I read all of the pages-the one about the Lady, herself, in the Telegraph Journal was verrry interesting! I’m going to whip up a batch but I have no idea how I will use them. I’m so tired of cukes in vinegar now…I need something new and this may be the delicious recipe that hits the spot.

  226. Sherry~~I just shortened the name up to Lady Ashburn… She did not specify what kind of vinegar, cider or white, I use the white. I add about a cup of finely diced celery and about one-half of a large sweet red pepper but these are optional. This batch only makes about 4 small bottles so I used to double or triple the recipe. It is best to make a small batch when trying it out for the first time. One other thing, she said ‘salt’ but did not specify, pickling or table salt. I prefer using the coarse salt (pickling salt) as the table salt contains iodize. I also make it in an enamel cooking pot or it can even be made in a small enamel roaster. You should not use stainless steel pots as the vinegar will sure clean your pot all shiny but it is not recommended for making pickles.

I found if you take some of the cold vinegar and dissolve the flour, tumeric and dry mustard, you wont end up with lumpy sauce so I bring my vinegar and sugar to a boil and then add the dissolved flour etc as if I was going to make gravy. When it returns to a boil and starts to thicken, I add the drained veggies and cook and stir often for approx one hour.
Fill sterilized bottles right away with the hot mixture, cap and make sure the lids snap down as they cool so you will have a good seal. They will keep in a dark place for a couple of years, if they have a good seal. They are delicous on roast beef or ham sandwiches instead of mustard.

LOL, I didn’t know Lady Ashburn’s was a Maritme recipe. Thanks for that link.

  227. Sherry says:

Snoopy, thanks so much for the tips! I have both sea and pickling salt on hand so I will use the pickling salt. So this recipe makes a small batch? That’s good since I have one heck of a picky eater for a husband! Chances are, he won’t eat it. I like that this is a relish recipe. And easy!

  228. margaret says:

Thank you Everyone. I so enjoyed conversations last night about food, gardens, the lovely pictures. recipes and just old memories. I can’t wait to try the recipes especially the pickles. I too have a very picky, picky husband, won’t try anything new…. My son, grandson and myself love new things and when I tell them we are eating Nova Scotia recipes they will be thrilled. Thank you again

  229. cali patti says:

Oops, I meant to write snake comment in here Please move Snoop if you can or want to.
Thanks for the Cowboy Boots advice. I have been thinking about those knee high pull on water proof boots (love the pretty prints/colors) or construction lace up boots. Never considered cowboy boots. Thanks…

  230. Cali Patti~~naw, I will leave your rattle snake in the other thread and maybe it will hiss and bite the turnip in her tush. I would like to see one chase old white beard. I wonder if he misses Kathi chasing after him. Not.

  231. nan11 says:

Snoop: I wasn’t sure last night, so I wanted to check my doughboy recipe before I asked–but it doesn’t call for butter (or margarine).

Here is my recipe (I have it right in front of me):
    1 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder (nice rounded teaspoons)
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/2 cup water (or a little more)

I was wondering if yours is similar, only with butter. I kind of like the sound of that, so I was wondering if you could suggest an amount–maybe a tablespoon cut in before I add the water?

Also, I have one question about the Lady Ashburn(ham) pickles: when would you add the chopped celery and sweet red pepper pieces? Not at night when you cover the cukes & onions with coarse salt, right? But would you put them in right away with the other pieces once they are rinsed?

I seem to remember that I only stirred the red pepper pieces in at the very end–but I’m not positive about that now. (I’m going to write it down, this time.)

Don’t go to any bother over my silly questions–just reply if you want to. If we wore this topic out last night, I understand.

  232. Nan11, I would add a 1 or 2 T’s of margarine or butter to your flour, b powder and salt. Work it into the flour as if you were making biscuits. A fork comes in handy to cut the margarine in and crumple (is that a word?) it. As for the pickles… I put the salt on all the veggies, red pepper and celery included, and leave 8 to 12 hrs. Drain and rinse the veggies. I have prepared the veggies early in the morning, brined them thru the day and cooked them at night when it was cooler. You don’t have to brine them exactly 12 hrs.

  233. Nan11, I am talking sweet red peppers not the hot ones. You can add red pepper and celery after the cukes and onions have been in the brine, I just like to brine it all. My sister only brined her cukes and not the onions. Her Lady Ashburn’s always repeated on me…burp burp…

  234. nan11 says:

Ahh, thank you Snoop. I didn’t know that about the stainless steel pot, either. I’ve got an enamel pot around here, somewhere. I think. I know I used to have one, but I’m starting to think I must have loaned it to someone.

Anyway, maybe a nights sleep will jog my memory.

  235. Nan11, I find that an enamel roaster can do the trick as long as it is not too big for the burner on your stove. I have always had a propane gas kitchen range and can adjust the heat to suit whatever I use.

  236. Nan11~~I just checked on the internet and they use stainless steel pots for making pickles. I was taught to use enamel pots that were not chipped in any way. I know that if you want to clean a stainless steel pot, just add some vinegar and water and boil it. I would not want any residue from the stainless steel in my pickles. So the choice of using a stainless steel pot is up to the cook. Aluminum is a definite no no. I use a wooden spoon to stir the pickles a glass cup to fill the bottles. I am beginning to think that I am very old fashioned and a bit weird.

  237. nan11 says:

Snoop: Nope, I don’t think there is anything ‘old-fashoned or weird’ about being careful about what type of cookware one uses.

I did find my enamel pot. (Finally, sigh.) It’s in good shape, but it has a thin bottom. That’s what I like so much about those 18/10 stainless steel pots–they have that big thick aluminum bottom, and it’s the aluminum that distributes the heat so well. (No hot spots and they’re not aluminum inside, just on the very bottom!)

I still have an electic stove–I have heard, though, that gas is by far the best.

Another idiosyncrasy with my dang stove, is that it has cast iron burners. Once you get them hot, it takes forever to cool them. So when a recipe says bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer–I have to be very careful or I will have it at the ‘full boil’ stage too long. (That can cause all kinds of havoc to a recipe–believe me I’ve been there and done that.)

I’ve been wracking by brain the last couple of days, trying to remember if I ever made pickles in my stainless steel pots, and I do think I have. My ‘pot’ is Paderno and that stuff is supposed to be safe as far as metal ‘alloys’ or whatever seeping into food is concerned; however, one really never knows.

I do use vinegar to clean them. Sometimes, for a tough stain, I add a little baking soda with the vinegar–there is nothing that won’t remove. Also, (and I read this on the internet)–you can take a piece of left-over cucumber that’s past it’s eating prime, and rub this over the outside of your stainless steel. Then take a nice soft cloth and polish. Beautiful–you end up with no streaks and deep, rich shine. (No chemicals and a great smell while you’re doing it, too.)

I seem to have decided that I’m going to make a small batch of pickles; so, tomorrow I’m going to take a peek at the store to see if I can find a ‘coated’ pot with a heavier bottom. I’m not planing on doubling the recipe or anything, so it wouldn’t have to be an extremely large one. If the price is not bigger than the pot, I might indulge.

(Just to let you know how fussy I can be–I don’t even allow my cats to eat out of plastic. I have little white “Corelle” dishes for them!)

  238. Sherry says:

 nan11, you do spoil your fur-babies~

Jonathan, I need to know about how much salt, if any, goes into the Lady’s pickles. The amount called for in the recipe is only for the brining of the cukes. Is more salt added to the recipe? Maybe I’ll make it without salt to see if its good. I would think that 1/4 cup salt is waaaay too much for the recipe. TIA!

  239. nan11 says:

Sherry: I don’t think you will need any more salt. The coarse salt still penetrates the pieces a little bit even though you rinse them, so I think it would be a mistake to add more.

Now, I’ll wait to see what Snoop says. She may tell me I’m wrong.

  240. Sherry~~don’t add any salt to the Lady Ash pickles. Like Nan said, some salt does penetrates the veggies during brining. When you rinse the veggies just taste a piece of cuke, if it taste too salty, rinse them again.

I just came in from the garden. I wish you could have seen what my friend took home, about 8 large cukes, ripe tomatoes and new potatoes. It was a gorgeous day here in NS and the forecast is 3 days of rain. BTW, I think green tomatoes would be hard to find now as they are all ripening.

  241. nan11 says:

Sherry: I don’t know if this will ease your mind any, but I compared the recipe from your link to my own, and the amounts are the same. (Well, mine says a scant pint of cider vinegar and a ‘dessertspoonful’ of tumeric.)

It’s really very good. I don’t know if other people will agree with this comparison, but they hit the spot the same way a ‘sweet and sour’ sauce does, only it has the crunchy little pieces in it. They’re not too ‘hot’ and not too ‘sweet’–but just right!

Also, I just Googled ‘measurements’ and there may be a slight difference between us–but it said that as long as we stick consistently with the ones we have, the taste results should be the same. (If that makes any sense.)

Snoop: I’m going to drive you crazy with my questions, I know and I do apologize–but I just noticed that my recipe says only to let stand in the course salt {overnight} and then dain. It doesn’t specify rinsing. Do you rinse yours? I would be willing to bet that I didn’t in the past. I would really appreciate your ideas on this, if you don’t mind sharing.

  242. nan11 says:

Snoop: Me again. Yikes, I should have refreshed! I see from your comment of 4:28 pm, that you do rinse. Okay, that settles that. I’m going to rinse, too!

Yep, I was thinking that about the tomatoes. (That’s was I little bit of my reasoning behind deciding on the pickles.) I might take a look around though–my father used to leave some plants ‘unpruned’, and they stay green a lot longer. Actually, they won’t really turn red on the vine, iirc.

Nice day here, too; but it does look like rain is moving in.

Are your potatoes nice and big? (Mmm, I can taste them!)

  243. Sherry says:

Geesh! i had a dickens of a time getting logged in!

Thanks for the answers, ladies, about the salt dilemma. I shall rince and add no more salt. I kinda thought that was for the brining. It still is too much salt even for that amount of cukes, imo.

The tomatoes I use are the cherry, grape, and pear shaped (I don’t know if the latter have a name-they are the volunteers- they come out bright yellow and pear shaped and have a wonderful tomato flavor). I either cut them in half or leave them whole with just a small slice off the stem end of them. I have oodles of the green things. I pick them when they are a light green, on the verge of ripening.

I love the harvest news of your beautiful N.S. garden, Snoops! My hubby was lamenting that we may not have the tomatoes needed to can up 48 pints. I told him we may have to buy some bushels at the farmer’s market. Its his darn squirrels eating them-two bites and drop them on the ground, repeat with the next nearly ripe tomato. The clever little devils hide them, too. As if I wouldn’t know when I have a missing tomato or cuke! I should have copied Sister Blister’s recipe for squirrel stew…

  244. Nan11~~I dug a new Yukon Gold potato today and it was 3/4 the size of a grapefruit. I have rock free soil so they grow so much better. It is optional if you want to rinse the veggies after you brine them. Use the old taste buds and munch on a piece of cuke, if you can taste the salt, rinse. I always rinse the tomatoes and onions when I make the chow chow as the toms absorb the salt and if you don’t rinse them, it makes the chow bitter no matter how much sugar you use.

  245. Canned ripe tomatoes. Wash and rinse 6 to 8 pint Mason jars, depending how many your canner will hold. Wash and dry rings and place discs in hot water.

Wash your ripe tomatoes and remove any stems. Dip tomatoes, a few at a time in boiling water, about 2 minutes, remove from water with tongs and plunge in cold water, the skins will slide right off. Fill Mason jars with ripe tomatoes, if small toms leave whole, or core and quarter larger ones. Once your bottles are full, invert the bottle. Just spread your fingers over the bottom of the bottle and drain off the juice. Discard the juice. Add 1 level teaspoon of salt and 1 level teaspoon of sugar to each pint bottle. Fill bottles with canned tomato juice to within about 3/4 inch from top. Slide a knife ( chop stick is great to use) and remove any air bubbles from the bottles. Place on discs and then put on the rings and tighten snuggly, not too tight.

(one large tin of tomato juice will do quite a few pints of tomatoes)

Most people use canners with the rack to hold the bottles. Once the bottles are in place, fill up your pot to about an inch from the top of bottles with hot tap water. Cover and bring slowly to a gentle boil, boil for approx 45 minutes. Ease off lid of canner and let some steam escape and be sure no cold air comes in contact with those hot bottles. Remove from canner and let bottles cool. You should hear each lid snap down as it cools. Don’t be alarmed if the tomatoes look funny. The juice will rise to the top as they sit and look watery. When you go to use them, just give them a shake as you would a tin of tomato juice.

My way of doing things for safety purposes and being in a w/chair.

I place a tea towel in the bottom of large enamel roaster. I can put 8 to 10 bottles in the bath without them touching. I cover bottles up to the neck with hot water. I cover the roaster and boil them for about 40 minutes. After tipping the lid of roaster to let the steam out, I gradually remove lid of roaster and let mine cool in the water.

Once you taste these canned tomatoes, you will never want the store bought ones. Oh, I also made my own spaghetti sauce and salsa. I had to be nuts to do all that work but had to keep up the tradition of the Maritimers.

  246. Kinds of Veggies that I have grown in my container garden successfully. I have strawberry rhubarb and chives and a couple years I filled a planter with everlasting strawberries that grow and ripen right into November or freeze up.

Snoop: I was going to comment and ask how much sifting you had to do to have rock free soil–but now I get it, (I think)–because it’s a container. I still don’t really understand how a fairly large garden could be container, though.

I’m really curious to know how deep it is and what the bottom (and sides) are made of.

No wonder your potatoes are such a nice size–all that soft, loomy soil! Wow!

You know, I tried growing celery myself one year when I lived in SJ, but the slugs got it. They ate all the heads in one night! (Six, iirc) I’m not kidding–all I had left in the morning was a few strings.

Oh my gosh, it all sounds so good. I forgot about beets–they’re real good pickled, too.

And spring rhubarb–tender and tart! Mmmm! (If I get to the market, I always buy some.)

I see you’re missing summer savory. I love it in dressing, and sometimes I add a tablespoon or so to my doughboys (if I’m making a chicken soup.) And it smells so good drying! Just kidding, though–I know lots of people prefer sage.

I’m impressed with they way you do tomatoes–I strip the skins off the same way; but then all I do is put them back in my pot (no water, though), and boil (or simmer) gently for about 10 minutes. Some years I added some Italian seasoning and green pepper bits.

After I get the gentle boil step done, then I bottle them and do the water bath to get my seals to pop. (I don’t think I was ever respectful enough of when to completely remove the lid, though.)

These are really very good, too. I am intrigued with your addition of the tomato juice. I’m going to keep a record of it in case I ever feel the urge to make them.

The full flavor of home canned fresh tomatoes–perfection. You are so right when you say that once you taste them prepared this way, store bought pales in comparison.

  248. Sherry says:

Yummy! Yukon Gold potatoes are the only ones I’ve ever grown in my garden. I buy them and just love them for everything I make with potatoes. Tonight I made potato pancakes for our dinner. i forgot how easy they are to make. My grandmother used to make these ‘cakes using leftover mashed potatoes with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled in.

I tried a bite of the Ashburn Pickles and they are fantastic! I hope to have enough cukes to make another batch before the season is over. I’m glad you mentioned them, Snoops!

  249. Nan11~~the reason my soil is rock free because I pluck em and chuck em. I didn’t sift all my soil. I have a few small rocks here and there.

  250. Sherry~~well Congratulations =!! Now you are the member of Pickles Club. As the pickles age a bit they taste even better. I always eat a bottle of them right away because they are irresistable.
Did you add celery and/or red pepper too?

  251. Nan11~~I grew celery once and it was a pain in the patooie. You have to plant the seed in little ditches and as it grows, keep building the earth up around the stalks so it will blanch. I was an amateur at gardening and let the stuff grow and didn’t keep hoeing the earth up. The celery was so bitter and strong..never again. It was too much effort for a few celery and the space it needed in the containers.

  252. Sherry says:

Heeheehee! I’m proud to be a member of the Pickles Club!

I’ve always made the Bread and Butter pickles for hubby’s lunches-he loves them and has told me my B&B’s were better than store bought (ofcourse!). Now that he is retired he doesn’t eat them like he once did so I figured I’d do something different with them. I was putting them in vinegar, water and salt and pepper but that was getting tiring so I used the rest of those in the LA pickle relish. I didn’t have any celery or red pepper on hand to use but I have the pepper on my grocery list to add in my next batch (if I’m lucky to have enough cukes for one more batch).

Oh, I can see why a bottle would be consumed before setting a spell to meld the flavor into the pickles!

I think I’ve read your Garden of Weeden article a few times-its one of my favorite garden stories. I’m so glad that God has blessed mankind with gardens and the abilities to care for them. I saw a television show years ago where the most severly disabled children were in a public garden made especially for those in wheelchairs and those who were disabled. It was interesting to watch a child with cerebral palsey tend his little patch of raised bed using specially made hand tools. Hmmm…I wonder if I recorded that show…My favorite garden show from ages past was Gardener’s Journal. I’ve taped her shows. Right now her name escapes me but she’s a Canadian and her garden was on a very steep incline! She would go to other gardener’s gardens. Her show was on at 5am every weekday morning-YUP! I’d get up and enjoy my coffee with her and the Gardener’s Diary sweetheart from the the South US.! HGTV needs to get more shows like that again.

  253. Nan11~~the containers (think of really long bins) that were in my Garden of Weeden did not have bottoms but were built right up from the ground. It took one pile of soil to fill all the planters. We put lots of rocks in the planters before they were filled with soil so they had good drainage. Wood preservative was used on the outside of my first planters but that is a no no to use now. Over the years I had to replace some planters due to the wood starting to rot. Since my neighbor took over planting, he is gradually dismantling the containers (bins) and planting right on the ground. Quite a few people with limited space in their yard are growing in containers. A couple 12ft x 4 ft bins can grow more veggies than a person realizes. You don’t have to have space for in between the rows of carrots etc. I had 3 rows of carrots in a ten foot bin so it was equivalent to a 30 ft row of carrots. I just spaced or (broadcast) the seeds about 3 inches between each row. Am I confusing you yet?

  254. Sherry~~I posted that Garden of Weeden article in Dave’s Health eConversations, May ’09, and rued the day that I did. Ahum had me limping around the blogs and the others made so much fun of me. Now I could care less. If someone reads it and it helps them, that is all that counts. Ahum posted my phone number and name and googled Bedford, N.S. She found out rich people lived there so I had to be sending Dave money so he would let me on his blog. Ha ha ha I am far from being rich in material things but I am rich in the things that really matter.

  255. nan11 says:

Snoop: Nope, I think I understand.

I don’t believe I’ve ever read the “Garden of Weeden” before. I enjoyed it very much. I see lots for you to be proud of in that article.

My sister had a small, narrow space and she made ‘raised beds’ (just on the grounds with no wood sides), then she put some bark chips down for walk-ways between them. From seeing hers, though, I know what you mean about how you can grow veggies ‘close together’. She grew an amazing amount of produce in those beds.

One year we coaxed Dad to plant some gourds for us in his great big garden. Those things took off and they were growing in leaps and bounds. They were ‘running’ all over the field and he was worried they would cause Mum to fall. So, I suggested a little fence–explaining that they would climb up the fence and look real nice. HaHaHa!! Within less than a week, they had climbed up the fence, knocked it down and kept right on going.

We had baskets and baskets of real nice gourds that year.

Another year, I noticed Dad had a little empty space in his garden so I bought six little scrawny looking green pepper plants and asked if I could grow them there. He planted them and everything for me (he was fussy about his garden); but I was shocked over how many peppers I had. I’m sure I had at least three big paper bags full. I cut green peppers up one night till my hands were sore and my back was killing me, and I still had one big bag left.

As I was heading out the door for work the next morning, I grabbed the whole bag and set it on the table in the lunch room–by morning coffee break those things were all gone. Everyone but me was thrilled with them–I was just glad to see the end of them. To this day, I’m not really fussy about green peppers. It taught me a lesson–little scrawny plants can grow into great bit monster producing plants.

Anyway, enough garden stories–but I wanted to tell you that, yes–I was mounding up my celery very carefully. I was heart-broken when the slugs ate them. There were no warning nibbles or anything. They were there when I went to bed and they were totally gone the next morning.

I hope it was bitter enough that it puckered those old slugs for a few hours!

  256. Nan11~~you must have had some rich soil to grow all those green peppers. I only had one good year of growing them. They need nice warm soil so I may have put them in too early. Your dad sounds like he was quite the gardener. My dad took pride in his garden too. It meant food on our table and he gave so much away. In fact, we had quite a lot of company at harvest time. He would never give a veggie away if it had the slighest blemish on it, we got to eat those. My hubby lugged a lot of veggies to his work place too, mostly toms and cukes. I can’t stand to see anything go to waste.

  257. nan11 says:

Snoop: Just about got my chopping done. (I’m running a little late.)

I’m going to make them tomorrow, though.

I’ll let you know how they turn out. (Well, at least imo.)

  258. Nan11~~hope your pickles turned out good. The aroma in your kitchen must be some nice.

I had to invest in a new monitor this morning. My other one wasn’t really that old but it has been giving me problems and today it wouldn’t even power on. This new one is 20 inches wide and about a foot in height. I got a good deal on it and a 2 year extended warranty.

  259. nan11 says:

Snoop: You’re new monitor sounds very cool.

    You know, mine has been doing that since it was brand new. They usually tell me it’s electricity that builds up in the tower part. I think they pull my leg. {sigh}

Anyway, I have finsished my pickles. I’m not sure all my seals have popped yet, so I’m still listening carefully.

I’ve got about five nice sized bottles and the sixth one is about half full. I only tasted the very last drops in the pot, but I think they are good. I can’t tell for sure until they cool.

They are not quite as ‘yellow’ as I think they should be, but I’m blaming it on my dry mustard being old. I wish I would have pitched it and bought a new box.

They’re still pretty, though. I added the one-half sweet red pepper and 1 cup celery that you suggested, and I brined it all together with the cukes and onions.

Just as I was ready to drain & rinse them, my brother-in-law dropped in for a visit. He only comes about one or twice a year, so I didn/t want to tell him I was busy. I’m hoping I didn’t leave them too long in the brine, though.

Right now, I’m enjoying the smell. For a while there, I was beginning to wonder if I had rocks in my head!

FYI: I just heard on CNN that things are looking quite promising for Amanda Knox. I always had a feeling she was railroaded by the Italian cops. (Another controversial opinion of mine, I know.) I’d like to see her released, though.

  260. Nan11~~I really like this new monitor and it is so wide, I don’t need to use the scroll bar to move it horizontially.

I don’t even know if dry mustard has an expiry date. It is not an ingredient that a person would use that often. Other than pickles, I have used it for making a glaze for a ham or when baking beans. I am sure your pickles will be delicious. It is a bit of work but in the end, you have the satisfaction of eating something not full of additives.

@Nan11 Here is the link on the West Memphis Three http://callahan.8k.com/ Most of this information I have read was right here. The other at another blog site that was looking into the case. I remembered this case and even then, it didn’t so much appear the boys young men were being railroaded to me. Also, Jessie Misskelley wasn’t as slow as they would liked us to have believed. He confessed on several occasions and went on to confess in prison to anyone that would listen. The same thing happened with Jason Baldwin. I do think the little boys had suffered some kind of abuse before their deaths. I just do not believe the parents in any way murdered them.

  264. SageMom~~post it all out in the Odds and Sods post. If I get a chance, I will check some of it out. I am looking into another case at the moment.

And all these recipes! Oh how hungry I am right now! I am writing them down and printing them for my recipe pages! Snoopy, your garden was quite the sight to behold. There is nothing that feels better than gardening. It’s funny, I can remember the smells and sights of my Grandma’s garden more than anything in my life! The sounds of the train as it was coming down the tracks by our home too! I can remember picking black raspberries and red raspberries and then Grandma making pies with our harvest after the long walk down the tracks. To this day, I walk and I walk and I walk. I love the sights and smells so much!! And Rhubarb and strawberries? There is nothing in this world as good as that! Well……………….my Grandma used to make tomato jelly! Sounds bad doesn’t it? It was quite delicious!!!!! Back to reading all this deliciousness for me!!!!

Video of Elderly Couple Baffled by Webcam Goes Viral

  268. nan11 says:

Snoop: Yep, I tried Firefox–no luck, though.

I just clicked on your link above to watch the video. I was able to find it and watch, but afterwards I realized my internet connected was broken. I had to restart my computer to get back online. Whatever that is, it just started today.

We just had a torrential downpour. Literally, sheets of rain were falling. It’s really warm and humid. I was hopeful that the rain would adjust things a bit, but it doesn’t seem to have helped.

My cat wants to go out but I think not. I hate to say no to her, but I don’t want her out in case it starts raining like that again.

FYI–The video was really cute. They were puzzled, but having a great time together!

  269. Nan11~~Hurricane Maria is passing by us. It is teeming rain here too and has been for the past hour.

Dave just put some great post up…check it out

Snoop: Oh, I didn’t know that about the hurricane. Shame on me for not checking the weather!

I just got back from posting at Dave’s. I had such a hard time, I just about gave up. It kept eating my comment and telling me in little red letters that I was “unable to post”. At one point, I even wondered if Dave had banned me.

Because of all my computer problems today, I kept on trying. Sure enough, finally, I believe I have added a comment.

That turned into a real ordeal. I wonder what tomorrow will bring me in the land of computer problems. Yikes!

I’m not looking forward to it.

Laurali: I’m heartbroken after reading that. She was 25 years old. Shame on her. She didn’t want her parents to hear their grandson’s cry? Two beautiful sons. Oh, I can’t stand thinking about what she did to them. What is wrong with people?

  271. Nan11~~the same thing happens to me at Dave’s. I cannot revise my comment or copy and paste there. I get that same red message. Maybe our comments need to go thru customs and are stopped at the border. LOL

Newfoundland is getting battered by Hurricane Maria today. It is still a category one, if I heard correctly. I am waiting for my sister, nephew and his wife to arrive from N.B. today. They are just having a short visit.

  272. nan11 says:

Snoop: I hope you enjoyed your company today.

I’m still laughing over you saying maybe they are stopping our comments at the border. Don’t give them any ideas–the next thing we know they’ll find a way to tax them, too.

I’m so glad our weather finally broke. It’s much cooler tonight. It was so hot for a few evenings that sleeping was very uncomfortable. That kind of heat is hard on my cats, too.

My female wants to stay out all the time, and I worry about where she is and what she is doing.

    Anyway, all’s well tonight.

  273. Nan11~~yes, it was nice seeing family today. All my relatives live in NB except for my daughter and son-in-law who live about 20 minutes away. Hubby was from Halifax so lots of inlaws here in NS. My Chicago daughter is flying home for Thanksgiving. I can smell the turkey cooking now.

It was 13C when I got up this morning and was cool and windy all day. It was hard to sleep when it was so hot and humid.

  274. nan11 says:

Snoop: Maybe this topic is too serious for your Coffee Cafe. I just submit it as food for thought, though. It is a 39 page pdf document from ‘Amnesty International’, dated February 2007. It contains an index for quick reference, but is an interesting read in it’s entirety. (There is only one blank page in it, and the rest seems to work properly.)

I’m so sorry for the suffering of this man, as I am for the family of Mark MacPhail. I don’t know if justice was served for either family, but I know I hope Mr. Davis makes it past Wednesday.

However, I feel it’s interesting to note this in light of that ‘other’ verdict that we are told we have no right to question. (Also the West Mempis Three comes to mind.) Just sayin’, folks–just saying.

I better get busy on my coffee. It’s getting cold.

‘Where is the justice for me?’ The Case of Troy Davis, facing execution in Georgia
    Quote from Page 30:
However it ruled that the jury decision should stand as such evidence had been presented at the trial: “[M]any pieces of evidence supporting a finding that Coles was the shooter or highlighting inconsistencies in the testimony of witnesses who identified Davis as the shooter were indeed presented to the jury during Davis’ trial. The jury, in its rightful role as finder of fact during the trial, was responsible for evaluating the credibility of the witnesses and determining whether the state proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Davis shot and killed Officer McPhail. This court…cannot supplant the role of the jury and find based on its own review of the record that the jury should have concluded that the state did not carry its burden at Davis’ trial. The core purpose of the writ of habeas corpus would not be served by such a presumptuous usurpation of the jury’s deliberative process. This court is limited to evaluating whether Davis’ rights were properly protected in the context of his jury trial.”
    End of Quote

Quote from Page 36, titled “A Plea from Troy Davis”
For the entire two years I was in jail awaiting trial I wore a handmade cross around my neck, it gave me peace and when a news reporter made a statement in the local news, “Cop-killer wears cross to court,” the cross was immediately taken as if I was unworthy to believe in God or him in me.

There is a short video at the link with Nancy and her partner doing the jive. (Well, at least I think it the jive.) Anyway, I think she’s good. And her partner–wowzers!!

Someone said she used to be a Michael Jackson fan; so, she might surprise us. I hope she stays in it for a while, at least.

I hoping for Chaz Bono, too. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see some real talent there.

I guess we are in for heavy rain and 100km winds tomorrow from what I heard on the weather channel.

  277. Nan11~~Simon’s blog radio is having a show on the Death Penalty today. I do not believe in the death penalty. It is barbaric and too many innocents are put to death. Once they are dead, if found that they were wrongfully convicted, there is no going back. Here is the link to the radio show…

  278. nan11 says:

Snoop: Thanks for reminding me about that. I’m going try to catch it–I just have a few things to do. (But it won’t take long.)

Well, because of human error it doesn’t really work. We can’t be perfect no matter how hard we try, and it’s never really right to take a life under any circumstances.

Sometimes, though, I wouldn’t mind it being on the table. Still, I do know better–it just that people think up some really horrible crimes and I don’t know what we should do with them (as a society).

Tonight they are doing a special on the millionaire’s wife who was found hanging naked off the balcony with her hands tied behind her back and her feet tied as well. (They say not ‘hog-tied’ though.)

CBS News ‘Crimesider’ ~ By Camille Mann

  281. Nan11~~you can post that anywhere you like. I am not really interested in following that case right now but you folks go right ahead and discuss it. I am going to try and watch the Ward trial tomorrow and then around 4pm, I want to take a peek at Dr Phil to see the rest of what he has to say. Judge Perry wanted a break down of some of the expenditures by tomorrow from the state to see if Ca Ca will have to pay back more money. I have no idea if they can meet that deadline and when the judge will rule on it. We will be discussing the A case right into the new year as we still have civil suits pending.

  282. Thanks for the link, Nan11. I may give a little listen while I multi-task with other things. How long is the radio show on?

  283. nan11 says:

Snoop: I think it’s just an hour. (It’s not usually a long one) I was just over I– see Ann-Tx is there.

You can listen tomorrow, too (or whenever)–just like Simon’s.

  284. I will go to Websleuth’s and take a listen….thx

  285. Nan11~~that was really an interesting hour. They all welcomed me and I felt right at home with Ann-Tx there. BTW, she came over and read the Bob Ward post and commended both you and I for doing an excellent job. That was nice of her since she was the one who alerted me to the case.

It was a very informative blog radio with no nonsense, I liked that. I may follow Websleuth’s radio more often now, depending on their topics and guests. Thank for letting me know about them.

  286. nan11 says:

Snoop: That show was a lot longer than I though it would be. Sorry. Usually they just last barely an hour.

I did listen to it, though. The cat confiscated my chair, so I took the hint and did my dishes. LOL

All I had heard previously on that case was what I had caught on HLN, but it is interesting. From the TV coverage, I know that there were no bushes or anything under or near the balcony. It was a completely open area–so I don’t know what could account for the scratches on her legs.

I’d like to see that recreation that the WebSleuth poster did.

  287. nan11 says:

Snoop: We were posting at the same time.

I wasn’t sure if you had listened or not. Anytime I have listend, I’ve found that a good show. I usually pay attention to see what they’re going to be talking about, so I can always drop in with a link. (Sometimes I forget–but then I listen to it on Monday.)

I’m planning on watching that trial tomorrow, so I know I’ll be busy.

Tricia posts a link to it right on the front page of WebSleuth’s, also.

FYI: Tomorrow Dr. Phil is supposed to have the last installment of the Anthony saga on, as well.

  288. Nan11~~since Rebecca’s hands were tied behind her back, I don’t think she could have managed flipping over the railing backwards. Her arms would have gotten in the way. I think she may have been forced into committing suicide. Someone had originally bound her legs with tape and then removed it. They then proceeding to tie her up and flip her off the balcony. Where is this millionaire, Jonah’s wife, living and did she have an alibi for that time period? For the life of me, I cannot make hide nor hair of that message painted in black inside the bedroom door. Can you? I guess Jonah was at the hospital the night Rebecca supposedly commit suicide and Adam was in the guest house?? Was Adam a hitman for his brother? Millionaires do strange things and think they can get away with it. Did Jonah blame Rebecca for Max’s death? Lots of questions that need answers.

  289. nan11 says:

Snoop: Well, I hate to sound like an idiot–but does he mean she went headfirst over the railng?

And I wonder why he put the plants there? I mean, I know better than to take anything as fact that I’ve seen on HLN, but they did specifically mention how open it was. I don’t remember seeing a thing under the balcony.

Still, I don’t always notice detail–so maybe I missed it.

  290. Nan11~ ~just an aside but Asians have been known to commit suicide if they feel that they have not been honorable. Rebecca may have felt guilt about Max’s accident and death. I just don’t know how she managed to tie her hands behind her back after her feet were bound. With her feet tied together that would have made her off balance while trying to manoeuver to tie her hands behind her back. All this time, the rope is around her neck and tied to the leg of the bed in the bedroom. She then had to hop over to the 3 foot railing, bend over at the waist and try to hop up and roll herself over that railing. She must have been some agile if she did all that.

  291. nan11 says:

Snoop: No, the message is bizarre. It doesn’t sound like a suicide message to me.

I think he may have had two other wives besides this poor little thing. I thought I heard on HLN that at least one of them didn’t live far–but these people have so many homes, I’m not sure if they would have meant that one ex didn’t live far from this home or another home, and the ex they were referring to was the little boy’s mother, iirc.

This guy is mega-rich–I believe he even beats Mr. Ward. I heard on HLN that the day law enforcement announced it was a suicide–the stock in his company went back up. It had apparently fallen quite a bit during the investigation. Who knows–you can exert a lot of pressure with that kind of money.

Another thing I didn’t hear mentioned tonight–his brother, who was apparently staying in the guest house (the same brother who found her and cut her down before law enforcement arrived)–worked in the coast guard. (I think that’s what they called it.) If so, it was suggested that he would know how to make the kind of knots that were used in this case.

  292. nan11 says:

Snoop: I have heard that about Asians–but do you think she would do it naked? I heard some members of her family give an interview on HLN and they said they were Christians and that they didn’t think she would do this to herself at all. They were really upset.

How could she have not made any foot prints on the balcony? I think they said there might have been one footprint and partial one of the toes–something like that. Even the fact that they said the balcony was dusty strikes me as odd–wouldn’t those kind of people have someone to make sure the balcony was swept?

I really don’t think this was suicide. Because of his mega-bucks, though–I wouldn’t be surprised if it stays that way on the books.

  293. Nan11~~someone mentioned a t-shirt or nightshirt around her neck and part of it in her mouth like a gag? The shirt may have slipped part ways off of her when she went overboard. We are getting bits of info here and there and I wouldn’t doubt a lot is being covered up. Some people who are very wealthy are more of an asset to their community than in a jail cell, if you get my drift. Of course, Rebecca’s family do not want to think that this was a suicide and I cannot blame them for hiring a lawyer to investigate further. Why wouldn’t Jonah’s brother have stayed with him for support instead of going back to the guest house? Maybe this Adam did more than cut Rebecca down. How do we know for sure that Rebecca even went over the railing and was dangling there? We just have Adam’s word for it or did he take a picture of her before cutting her down? When you see someone dangling in that position, you can more or less assume they are dead.

  294. cali patti says:

Hey ladies … Morning to you. Just had a small slice chocolate cheescake and coffee for breakfast. I cheated on my diet. I’ve been on the 17 day diet and have had great success. Like the doctor writes, anyone can do anything for 17 days. It is mostly a low carb diet with lots fruits/veggies. I am happy with it.
I have not been following the trial but wanted to pop in and say hello.
Got our oaks trimmed by pros this weekend and they look great.
Need to spray next. Spiders everywhere.

… and to all a great day!

  295. Hi Cali Patti, I just got the outside of my house washed. Spider webs everywhere. Lots of fruit flies this year too.

  296. cali patti says:

Hey Jon, I’ve often thought if I could find a way to process spider’s into spider meat and promote it as the new “in” food I would be so wealthy. LOL

  297. Laurali says:

Hi all! Hope all is well, suffering through a higher dose of my ADHD medicine. I think I would rather bounce off the walls than feel like chit! I had to go from 40 to 60mg and then this week I started an 80mg dose per day. No changes as of yet except feeling like crap.

I can hardly wait for the update on the final show of Dr. P with the Felon’s parents. Did it air today? Or did it get canceled for a sports program this week. How is the new trial going?

  298. nan11 says:

Laurali: What your going through doesn’t sound like fun. I don’t know how long it takes to adjust to that stuff, but I hope it’s soon.

The new trial is going fairly well. I don’t know what the Florida folks will do with it during deliberations, but I’m anxious to find out.

I feel bad for his daughters, too. They do sit on the prosecution side, but I think they firmly believe in their father’s innocence. I don’t know what they’ll do if he is found guilty. At least they’ll have their aunt–she is there everyday, too.

It a little bit sad, though. Nobody seems to really care about Mrs. Ward.

  299. Laurali says:

Nan it must be something in the water in Florida. It seemed like nobody really cared about Caylee either!

  300. nan11 says:

Laurali: That’s what I was thinking when I typed that.

I forgot to tell you earlier, the last installment of the “A’s” was on today. I think Snoop watched it. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover she is writing a post about it. I’m not sure, but maybe. I’m keeping my eyes pealed watching for it. LOL

I don’t know if anyone is interested in this–but, Nancy Grace is on Dancing With The Stars tonight. I can hardly wait to see her. (I know, I’m probably a majority of one.) Anyway, I’m off to watch.

  301. Laurali says:

Nan~ Thanks for the update on the A’s. Snoopy is a brave lady. I would be throwing shoes at the television. :) I do not watch a lot of television but I will flip it on and check Nancy out. I read she is donating her money to missing children. What a classy thing to do.

  302. I did a recap of Dr Phil on the…Much Ado About Nothing thread..

Sry, I am running a bit late today… the real world beckoned me…

  303. nan11 says:

Snoop: I’m just dropping in with a thumbs up for Nancy. She’s classy and she is one gutsy lady.

I enjoyed her dance, and her partner is sheer perfection. (He gets a thumbs up, too.)

Chaz Bono was great, as well.

  304. This is a test.. I am not sure why some comments are not going through. There is nothing in Spam so it must be a WordPress problem.

  305. Newbie, your comment is showing now in Much Ado about Nothing…. it must have been just a glitch. Sorry about that.

  306. nan11 says:

Snoop: Nancy made it through tonight–just barely. She was in the very bottom two–but she made it.

Everyone is so good–the competition is really steep. I hope she makes it for a few weeks though.

  307. nan11 says:

Snoop: I even hate to type his name–but did you hear he is dying? A natural death sounds too good for him. Apparently, they’ve got him taking up space and more tax dollars in a Quebec hospital.

Cancer will get the job done that society couldn’t. MOO

  308. Nan11~~I remember that SOB. They paid Olson’s wife $100,000 so he would tell them where he had buried or placed his victims. I hope that I was seeing things when I read that he was receiving Old Age Security and the Supplement while he was in jail. Geez, I can’t believe the Cdns are that stupid.

Look at this, an excerpt from the link you posted…

But then he had an affidavit saying he renounced his Canadian citizenship. He was going off on a rant that he didn’t want to be a Canadian anymore. I figured great, you don’t get your pension anymore.”

Last year, the federal government moved to cut off Olson’s more than $1,100 monthly Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement payments. The cutoff would take effect this January, King said

  309. nan11 says:

Snoop: I’m almost afraid to ask–but, do all prisoner’s get the OAS and the supplement if they qualify?

If so, our poor old sacred cow of ‘universality’ is really over milked, I would say. MOO

  310. nan11 says:

Snoop: This is a “test”. I submitted two comments on the “Much Ado About Nothing” thread and they aren’t showing up.

If this goes through, I’ll just let it be and apologize for my ‘duplicate’ comment if it shows up.

Sorry about that–I didn’t think I had entered it correctly that’s why I tried again.

  311. Nan11~~I found your comments in spam. I cannot see any reason they would go there. Anyhoo, I let them out along with a couple others. I cannot recognize the other names but I approved them for now.

  312. nan11 says:

Snoop: I just heard on Canada AM that they executed Troy Davis last night. I know it’s none of my business, but I’m all shook-up over that. I read enough about him over the week-end to begin to believe in his innocence.

It bothers me that a white, hot not woman can brutally murder their own toddler and walk free–complete with a private jet and a bottle(s) of liquor waiting. And maybe even worse–huge money deals in her future. (Because of idiots like me who watch.)

I’ll close with this quote from Mr. Davis, himself: “the cross was immediately taken as if I was unworthy to believe in God or him in me.”

My deepest condolences go to his family, and my prayers that he rest in peace with God’s grace.

  313. Sherry says:

nan11, I heard the news last night of Troy Davis’ demise…and that which you quoted mr. Davis as saying has been on my mind ever since. I hope Georgia will be compelled to get rid of the Death Penalty because of this-and I am pro-DP.

  314. cali patti says:

Sherry, I have bounced from younger years being pro DP to now not in favor of the DP. Ido not think Troy Davies was innocent from what the victim’s mom said about bullet casings being the same from two seperate murder scenes that same night. However, police could have planted the casings. That has never been an issue thou. I feel there was to many questionable pieces of evidence to execute Davies.

  315. cali patti says:

Morning room, has anyone heard/read if the DNA has come back on the twin boys who were murdered by their mom? She is that woman who gave birth in her family bathroom and left infant twin boys in laundry basket. Curious if her boyfriend was the father.

  316. Laurali says:

Nan ~ I thought I believed in the DP. After last night I truly believe it needs to go away. I am with you, I question whether or not they did the right thing. At the very least he should have been granted a new trial, minus the seven witnesses who recanted. And what harm could have came from the polygraph? Lots of questions. The Pastor who turned him 20+ years ago spent four hours with Mr. Davis on the ride to the jail. The police never interviewed him. Ever. This Pastor said he has turned in other folks and has had interviews, he felt it odd that they never asked him if he confessed. Never asked him if he told him where the gun was at, nothing! I hope Georgia did not execute an innocent man. No coming back from that.

  317. Laurali says:

Cali~ I meant to answer you too. :) I have not heard anything about the dna test as of yet. I do know that woman makes me sick. Twin boys never given a chance. Twins are great double the hugs and kisses.

  318. nan11 says:

Snoop: The Susan Powell case is all the talk over at WebSleuth’s this morning. Apparently they arrested her father-in-law last night on child pornography charges.

From what I just quickly gathered, all the charges have to do with young girls (well, Susan is apparently in some of them)–but her two sons are living with him (as well as Susan’s husband). I’ve heard it reported that he and the children’s father won’t even let Susan’s Mom and Dad visit their own grandchildren.

    Susan Powell’s Father-in-Law Arrested
Sub-Heading: Steven Powell faces child porn charges after images were seized during probe.

And, just so you all know I realize we have our own terrible crime–I’ll link a Canadian current child porn scandal that’s just as bad.

  319. I just heard about Susan Powell on CNN Prime aka HLN…. I keep that channel on all day. There is no end to child porn, murders of children and women going missing. We will have to find a couple more cases to follow. They are picking the jury for the Michael Jackson trial. A lot of people are backing Dr Conrad Murray. That is going to be a big trial.

  320. cali patti says:

If you “all” find an interesting trial/case to follow I am in…
Yes I heard that Susan Powell’s father-in-law was arrested also. Those boys were livingt with him & Josh the father. He is also the man that came out and said Susan had the “hots” for him. How she came on to him and he was in love with her. All so very sick. Disgusting!
I have hoped for the children being removed and given to Susan powell’s family. No such luck yet.

Hey the Canadian Snowbirds are doing fly overs today. Yippee! Very nice sounding! Very nice looking…Love the airshows!

  321. Cali Patti~~ if you look closely, I am one of those snowbirds. Did you see me look down and wink at you? Yes, please stick with Nan and I and follow some of these cases. I just read on WESH last nite that a woman in Brevard County, Florida, shot her husband and had him buried in her backyard for two months. She said he was abusive. She is being held without bond on second degree murder. I read that the daughters led LE to question their mother. I would not want to live in Florida. They have an average of a couple killings every day.

  322. cali patti says:

OMG, that was YOU winking, wow. I thought those people up north had frozen brains for allowing such a kooky person to fly their jet.
    My mistake, just a Snoopy.
Ha, you forgot to drop that stick of “borrowed” firewood.

  323. nan11 says:

Snoop: Ask me in January if I would like to live in Florida.

I’ll have my bags & cats packed in minutes and will be waiting for you at the airport. Murders or not.

  324. Sherry says:

Good news! The sons of Susan are in protective custody and her father is seeking custody~

    http://www.q13fox.com/news/kcpq-breaking-news-steven-powell-arrested-for-voyeurism-involving-children-20110922,0,3892107.story?track=rss

The father of Susan Cox Powell, the woman missing since 2009, filed for custody of her children Friday.

Susan’s father, Charles Cox, filed the petition arguing that the children’s father, Josh Powell, is not a suitable custodian. The petition said, “mother [Susan Cox Powell] has been missing since December 2009 and petitioners [Charles and Judith Cox] believe father [Josh Powell] is responsible for her disappearance.”

The custody petition comes just a day after Josh Powell’s father Steven Craig Powell, 61, was arrested on 14 counts of voyeurism involving two child victims and one count of possession of depictions of minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

  325. cali patti says:

Sherry, Yeah, that is such good news about Susan P. sons. About time. I think I heard a while back that Susan’s parents wanted the boys and wanted to see the boys however Josh would not allow them visits.

  326. cali patti says:

At Huffington Crime section there is an article that says she now must pay back $217,000. (rounded off). a Florida court accepted the new revised statement that followed certain guidelines.
    woop woop!

  327. Cali Patti~~I just posted a comment at the Much Ado About Nothing thread exactly what Casey owes. I will add a woot woot to your woop woop. LOL

WebSleuth’s is doing a radio show on this case tomorrow night, too.

  330. Nan11, the post is up and I’ll take anything you have. Just post it all in the new thread.. TIA

I am going to have to familarize myself with the case. It is all new to me.

  331. margaret says:

Hi all!! caca debt is rising. That is a big old WOOT WOOT too. Way to go Judge Perry!!! There are some back posts on Levi Page and Simon Barrett blog news programs, about Susan Powell. You might find smething there. ……..Has anyone read the book ” Heaven IS For Real “? It is about a four year old boy who almost died with a ruptured appendix and what he remembers happening to him during surgery. It is a wonderful little book, only162 pages. I have almost ftnished it. I get mad when have to stop reading. If you are looking for something to read, this is my reccomendation. Snoops, every one has settled down so I am going to my pretend light house , listen for the seagulls, waves and finish my book . Good night all

  332. cali patti says:

I will find the book, thanks for the suggestion. I do love reading.

Air Show, Canadian Snow Birds in the sky. Beautiful, awesome, my goose bumbs are having a play day. Love, Love Love when they are in the sky.

A lady down the street commented how they air show scares her dogs and went on about wether or not they were safe, on & on. It took all I had in me to be polite.
I asked if she knew all proceeds went to nonprofit groups that were also required to work the air show?
I replied to the group how I always marveled at how we humans crawled out of caves to be able to fly in the sky. What a huge tribute to mankind and our tenacity.
    She looked at me.
I then replied if that did not work for her try thinking of them as, “The Sound of Freedom.”
    I left.

  333. nan11 says:

Snoop: You know, there is one member of Simon’s radio show that really upsets me. It’s not Dave, of course–but I won’t name who it is.

I mean, there he was on a radio show not even knowing (or caring, imo) that a man who was quite possibly innocent had just been executed–but trolling for the State to murder the two responsible for the Petit family murders.

The evidence is not clear as to who do what to whom in that case. They gave both of the accused separate trials (one is just happening now), but his view seemed to be–never mind, just kill them both.

Now, with the loose and built for riding murderess of a 34 month old baby–nope–don’t you dare give her the death penalty. Never. Blame her mother.

Ohhh, I don’t know why I listen to that show.

  334. Nan11~~I know exactly who you are taking about and that person has ‘double standards.’ Sometimes I think he speaks before engaging his brain. Half the time, I tune him out and concentrate on the chat.

  335. Cali Patti~~I am glad you stand tall for what you believe in. Way to go!

  336. margaret says:

Another poor little 8 year old girl killed and thrown away by her stepfather. Kerra Wilson body found on ranch and stepfather confessed. Why do these women feel it is o.k.to leave helpless children in these mens hands. I’m having a cobra moment, he deserves DP. Kidnapping charge has been dropped from Baby Kate’s dad. He is now charged with parental kidnapping, a lesser charge, and his bail has been cut in half, now 250,000, but he is still in jail and not talking. Another 3 year old missing tonight. There is no end….

  337. Margaret~~not a week passes and there is another child raped, murdered and gone missing. It is like an epidemic and surely to God, something can be done to these pedofiles. Maybe they should be castrated in public with a blunt rock. It is sickening. Too many times it is the step mother or father who kills the child.

  338. nan11 says:

Snoop: Nancy did much better on Dancing With The Stars tonight. Well, I thought she did good last week, too; but I think she put in a gruelling week and did do better.

I should confess that I can hardly take my eyes off her dancing partner. Woozers.

  339. Sherry says:

Poor Nancy! They will have to make her dresses a bit more supportive1 One of her girls bounced out! Apart from that, I thought she did wonderfully.

    Snoopy, are you OK? I hope so, friend!~ {hugs}

  340. Sherry~~I am fine. Just have a few things in the real world that take my attention. I am listening to the opening statements of the Michael Jackson trial. HLN has it on and no commercial breaks which is unusual.

  341. nan11 says:

Sherry: LOL I missed that. I’d be glad, though, if they dressed her with a bit more coverage. However, I’m an old prude–so what do I know. I hope she makes it through tonight.

Snoop: I caught some of the opening statements–at least most of the State’s. I was horrified by that tape of Michael talking–gosh, he sounded bad. And to think they just kept feeding him drugs and feeding him drugs is so sad.

It’s more interesting than I thought it was going to be.

  342. Nan11~~HLN are carrying the trial live with no commercials. It originated from California so we get it later in the day. I was never a fan of Michael Jackson as I am too old for his kind of music. He is dead and I do like to follow trials. I haven’t been following this case up until now so I am looking at it as if I was on the jury.

  343. cali patti says:

a California trial, whoopeee finally my time. Wow, just teasing!

  344. nan11 says:

I just don’t get it, Snoop. Why should she get a ‘second’ chance to go out there and murder someone else?

Will her eight year old brother ever find comfort and be allowed to grow up? Will her parents ever get a chance to hold their grandchildren?

I suppose we think we are doing the correct moral thing–ha ha, I say. I think we fool ourselves. MOO

  345. nan11 says:

Snoop: Here is a link where you can watch the Conrad Murray trial live. They say it doesn’t buffer like CNN. (They started showing commercials on HLN.)

I just keep it close in case they decide to go to commercial in the middle of something I want to hear–HLN seems to run a few seconds behind though.

Any who, Ck out TEVO. It is a device you purchase that records all programs that you dial in and replays them without commercials. Until I began watching commercial free programs I discovered an entirely different type of viewing pleasure. I still watch a great many programs with commercials but not the same. If you enjoy tv and can afford the device or something similar it is worth the investment. Santas coming, ask your kids for a setup.

  348. nan11 says:

  353. nan11 says:

Snoop: How about a wink or something to let us know everything is okay. It just started raining in my neck of the woods–I think we’re supposed to put up with this for awhile. I shouldn’t complain though, because it has been nice.

I watch a fair amount of Dr. Murray’s trial today. I’m surprised at how interesting I find it. All the witnesses are these beautiful, well-dressed people–one after the other. They ended with Michael Jackson’s chef. Paris educated, no less.

The questions are interesting, too. The ‘chain of events’ are complicated, really.

I’m so impressed with the judge–I find him very cordial but no nonsense. Have you noticed that there seems to be some difference between the way they object? They don’t seem to have to give a reason. The judge just overrules or sustains and that’s it. He doesn’t put up with the lawyers from either side griping about this, or griping about that. Everybody keeps it nice and business like.

Another thing I noticed–if you leave that TMZ link on after the seal first appears, within a few minutes it goes away and shows some of the people leaving. It just showed one of the defense lawyers leaving–at first only the media was asking him a few questions which he was loving, even as he was explaining that he couldn’t answer them. Then all of a sudden people started shouting that “Murray must die” (or something like that), and security had to escort him to safety.

Yikes! So you never really know what your are going to see, and HLN is really cutting a lot out. They seem to just show the witnesses that they think are important. I kind of like making my own decisions.

Anyway, hoping to have a little shout from you when you get a minute. ✿ܓ

  354. Nan11~~I watched all of the Dr Murray trial today and am getting addicted to it. I find it very interesting. Oh I love that judge and there is no nonsense in his courtroom. Yes, I certainly notice the difference in the way they object and sustain. It seems way more sophicated than those last two trials in Orlando. I also watched the outside activities. After the court ended today, did you hear the screaming and them going after that gray haired defense attorney. I would be worried that some idiot may have a gun. No more news on the other end. *wink

  355. nan11 says:

Snoop: When the judge told the defense attorney that what was written on those big messy, cumbersome drawing boards (that ‘Baez the clown’ liked so much), was not evidence because it was not testimony–I thought: “Oh, if only, if only.”

He got away with so much that the thought of it still sickens me.

  356. Nan11~~oh wouldn’t I love to see Baez in the courtroom with the judge in Dr Murray’s trial. My gosh, I don’t even know the judge’s name yet. Shame on me. That made me sit up and take notice when the judge said that it was not evidence on that drawing board. I hope the jurors of Pinellas county is watching Murray’s trial. They wouldn’t get catered to like Judge Perry did for them.

Snoop: I finally found a copy of this email. They were just ready to show this one day, when HLN decided to go to a commercial. That was the day I decided I better find a live link.

I just typed it from the photo to make it easier to read. (I apologize if there are any errors.) I added the link, but be careful if you use it because #11 is the death photo.

TMZ: Picture #15 ~ An email from Kenny Ortega to Randy Philips talking about Kenny’s concerns with Michael’s health:

I will do whatever I can to be of help with this situation. If you need me to come to the house, just give me a call in the morning. My concern is, now that we’ve brought the Doctor in to the fold and have played the tough love, now or never card, is that the Artist may be unable to rise to the occasion due to real emotional stuff. He appeared quite weak and fatigued this evening. He had a legible case of the chills, was trembling, rambling and obsessing. Everything in me says he should be psychologically evaluated. If we have any chance at all to get him back in the light, it’s going to take a strong Therapist to help him through this as well as immediate physical nurturing. I was told by our Chorographer that during the Artists costume fitting with his Designer tonight they noticed he’s lost more weight. As far as I can tell, there is no one taking responsibility (caring for) for him on a daily basis. Where was his assistant tonight? Tonight I was feeding him, wrapping him in blankets to warm his chills, massaging his feet to calm him and calling his doctor. There were four security guards outside his door, but no one offering him a cup of hot tea. Finally, it’s important for everyone to know, I believe that he really wants this. It would shatter him, break his heart if we pulled the plug. He’s terribly frightened it’s all going to go away. He asked me repeatedly tonight if I was going to leave him. He was practically begging for my confidence. It broke my heart. He was like a lost boy. There still may be a chance he can rise to the occasion if we get him the help he needs.

    Sincerely,
    Kenny

Thanks for putting up a link to my new post, Jonasnoop. Or is that Snoopyjon? Or is it… Oh, never mind. My faculties must be a little off today.

  360. Your welcome Mr Pickle. I think all your faculities need to be revamped.

Snoop: I just heard on HLN that a big whoop-tee-doo is going to go on when trial resumes. Apparently one of the defense lawyers talked to the media and the Judge is PO’d. The attorney has to report.

I’m not familiar with their name or anything, so I think I’ve got this right.

The judge has issued a gag order, but if I understand correctly, it will effect only the attorneys and the media.

I think the trial will still be broadcast.

  362. Here are slides of the Casey Anthony reaction video….big whoopee deal…

Oh sorry, Snoop. I posted the same link (I think) over on the ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ thread. I saw that you had commented in here, but I didn’t take a look until just now.

    My apologies.

I’m not sure why Judge Strickland would have kept that video sealed; but to me it’s how you would act when you know your goose is cooked. Who knows? Maybe sound would reveal what we all suspect.

    MOO

  364. Nan11~~ I am glad you posted that on Much Ado About Nothing as some folks still visit there. The slides are such poor quality so I don’t know what all the fuss was about releasing it. I am going to have to start a new Coffee Cafe page soon. I am becoming derelict in my duties as a good host. Me bad!
